For all hires in Minneapolis, Virginia, Maryland, or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office for a minimum of four (4) days per week.

As a Senior Instructional Designer, you will be responsible for assessing training and organizational development needs, developing training programs, and/or conducting training sessions. We currently have one position for Senior Instructional Designer working within the Optum Learning Solutions Organization.
Part of Learning Solutions, our team breaks the mold on traditional design. As a team, we constantly consult on the needs, fill in gaps as needed regardless of roles, and remain proactive and agile in our approach. We leverage the individual areas of expertise of each team member to ensure that our end product meets our standard levels of excellence. As a team, we work side-by-side in our development processes. We work in the moment, collaborating and partnering with every step.
This position is full time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm CST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.
We offer weeks of on-the-job training. The hours of the training will be based on schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct training needs analysis for the business and developing all training materials
- Design and development of instructor-led virtual training as well as online and web-based training materials
- Manage training projects, end-to-end, from analysis through deployment, to incorporation into existing curriculum
- Develop assessments and performance-based activities to meet the organization's job/role requirements
- Conduct ongoing evaluations and analyze data to ensure effectiveness of programs and recommending / implementing modifications as necessary
- Work with SMEs to obtain training content

Required Qualifications:
Experience & Technical Requirements
- High School Diploma / GED
- Must be 18 years of age OR older
- 5+ years of professional instructional design experience in a corporate training, adult education, OR workforce development environment
- 5+ years of experience applying adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies to develop learning solutions
- 5+ years of experience designing and developing instructor-led training (ILT) materials and facilitator guides
- 2+ years of experience designing and developing self-paced learning solutions, including eLearning courses
- 2+ years of experience independently facilitating classroom OR virtual instructor-led training programs lasting multiple consecutive days OR weeks
- 2+ years of experience designing OR delivering systems training for business applications, platforms, OR operational processes
- 2+ years of experience using Articulate 360 OR comparable eLearning development software
Project Management & Professional Skills
- 2+ years of experience leading instructional design projects, including project planning, stakeholder management, timeline development, risk identification, and delivery of project objectives
- Experience partnering with business stakeholders, customers, and leadership to define learning requirements and align project outcomes with business objectives
- Experience influencing stakeholders and building effective working relationships across cross-functional teams
- Evidence of continuous professional development through certifications, training, mentoring, knowledge sharing, OR application of emerging learning technologies and methodologies
- Experience presenting recommendations, project updates, and learning solutions to stakeholders, customers, and leadership audiences
Communication & Technology
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Outlook
- Ability to work full time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm CST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Video OR multimedia recording and editing experience
- Storyboarding experience
- Technical Writing experience
- Self-starter with high degree of emotional intelligence
Telecommuting Requirements:
- Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
- Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
- Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service
Soft Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create professional business communications, training materials, and executive-ready presentations
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deliver results with minimal supervision

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $72,800 - $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
