This position is National Remote. You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in Minneapolis, Virginia, Maryland, or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office for a minimum of four (4) days per week.

The Threat Manager is a key member of UnitedHealth Group's (UHG) Corporate Security team and our Workplace Threat Management program. The Corporate Security organization is responsible for the Enterprise Workplace Security Program that facilitates the protection of the company's global workforce and physical assets through security risk management platforms. The Threat Manager will report to the Director, Threat Management within Corporate Security.

The Threat Manager is responsible for managing a variety of low- to moderate- risk workplace violence investigations as part of the larger Threat Management team. As needed, the Threat Manager will also assist the company's multi-disciplinary Threat Assessment Team (TAT)'s efforts in assessing and responding to incidents related to potential threats of violence in the workplace. The Threat Manager will also support other initiatives or projects related to the maturation of the overall Threat Management Program under the supervision of the Director, Threat Management.

This position is full time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:30am - 5:00pm CST. This role requires after-hours on-call availability, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • End-to-end management of low- to moderate-risk workplace violence investigations and incidents, working collaboratively with key corporate and business partners including but not limited to Human Resources (HR), Legal, and Communications
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies and nuanced safety plans in response to workplace violence threats and incidents
  • Engage local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies as well as on-site security teams to mitigate potential threats of violence as needed
  • Communicate with appropriate stakeholders about safety plans and law enforcement engagement
  • Document case investigation efforts into clear, detailed, and defensible reports
  • Participate in the cross-functional enterprise Threat Assessment Team (TAT) as needed
  • Support project management requirements and other initiatives related to Threat Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Corporate Security teams, internal partners, vendors, law enforcement, government agencies and industry bodies
  • Other job duties as assigned
  • This role requires after-hours on-call availability, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma / GED 
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • 3+ years of general security, intelligence, investigations, and/or crisis management experience in the private or public sector 
  • Experience conducting end-to-end security investigations
  • Training, knowledge, or experience in assisting victims of domestic violence 
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills to conduct investigations and lead meetings
  • Sound analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills and superior attention to detail
  • Flexibility and agility; ability to take direction and feedback and think creatively about solutions to complex problems
  • This role requires the highest levels of professionalism, diplomacy, confidentiality, and the ability to interact with a wide range of constituencies across UHG
  • Competency in the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Requires after-hours on-call availability, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed
  • Ability to successfully triage cases and manage multiple investigative cases at one time
  • Ability to work independently or in a collaborative team environment 
  • Ability to work productively in urgent and stressful situations
  • Ability to write thorough, clear, and organized investigative reports
  • Ability to provide verbal briefings in high-stress/crisis situations
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse identities, cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lead investigation experience in workplace violence, domestic violence, and threat and incident management in a government or corporate role 
  • Experience in conducting in depth interviews with Persons of Interest (POI's), witnesses, and persons impacted by WPV
  • Experience in conducting end-to-end workplace violence investigations, developing nuanced risk mitigation strategies and safety plans, and responding to emergency situations
  • Knowledge of violence risk factors and behaviors associated with targeted violence (BTAM Principles)
  • Training in workplace violence investigations and/or behavioral threat assessment 
  • Familiarization with, or already a member of, the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) or American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS)

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from$72,800 - $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
