The Drug Intelligence Clinical Pharmacists support the OptumRx Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, a group of practicing clinicians that reviews the clinical evidence for new and existing drugs on a regular basis to ensure alignment of programs with evidence-based standards in care.

The Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for the critical evaluation, authoring, peer reviewing, and presentation of drug monographs and class reviews through evidence-based, ethical, and regulatory compliant practices. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a broad-based knowledge of clinical therapeutics are critical to success in this role.

Working Schedule:

This is a full-time position with working hours of 5 days a week. The candidate must have availability to work U.S.-based hours when needed to accommodate team projects and meetings with U.S.-based colleagues.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Apply solid therapeutic expertise to interpret and summarize medical literature and clinical guidelines
  • Write and peer-review thoroughly researched drug monographs and class reviews
  • Present complex clinical evidence clearly to support actionable insights for key stakeholders, including Clinical Leadership, OptumRx National Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee members, and other cross-functional partners
  • Collaborate across business units to support the safe and effective use of medications in all strategic initiatives and special projects 
  • Provide thoroughly researched responses to drug information inquiries
  • Provide strategic guidance on formulary strategies through development of clinical position statements and other supporting processes

Required Qualifications:

  • Current and unrestricted pharmacist licensure
  • Proven solid experience working as a clinical pharmacist or completion of a pharmacy residency program with managed care and/or drug information experience
  • Demonstrated experience assessing and critically appraising clinical trials and evaluating comparative effectiveness evidence
  • Proven experience writing and presenting clinical information to diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to travel up to 10% as required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated additional certifications or specialized training in areas such as pharmacotherapy, oncology, cardiology, ambulatory care, HIV, pain management, psychiatry, multiple sclerosis, or related specialties
  • Proven completion of a pharmacy residency program
  • Proven experience working with or supporting a Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) committee or similar drug evaluation body
