You'll work on a mature, enterprise-scale product that supports pricing decisions for more than 1.5 billion pharmacy claims annually, combining advanced analytics, software engineering, and business strategy to solve complex healthcare challenges. As a Data Analyst, you will apply your expertise and skills to develop, refine, and support the business logic that powers our pricing platform. This includes working with complex pricing rules, data inputs, and analytical outputs to help ensure our pricing engine produces accurate, scalable, and commercially meaningful results.

Careers with Optum offer flexible work arrangements and individuals who live and work in the Republic of Ireland will have the opportunity to split their monthly work hours between our Dublin or Letterkenny office and telecommuting from a home-based office in a hybrid work model.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop logic and algorithms in our Pricing Engine to optimize drug pricing on our pricing platform 
  • Execute manual and automated testing.  Define and refine test criteria, test cases, and test scenarios in detail
  • Support production releases through testing, monitoring, and collaboration with stakeholders across multiple teams
  • Debug and identify root causes of problems in desired product/process. Recommends and/or implements corrective measures or solutions
  • Explore, analyze and interpret large datasets to identify patterns, trends and anomalies
  • Collaborate closely with business and technical colleagues in an agile-driven environment to solve problems and develop solutions through to completion
  • Work independently and with focus when needed
  • Ensure quality in design and coding outputs
  • Maintain your knowledge of the latest technologies and techniques relating to data analytics
  • Work within the solution delivery methods and standards set out

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a discipline with a significant focus on analytics, mathematics, coding, or related quantitative fields
  • Demonstrated intermediate proficiency in Python, including the ability to develop clean, maintainable code and follow software development best practices
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing SQL scripts, including the use of advanced SQL functions and querying techniques
  • Demonstrated experience, curiosity, and aptitude for solving business problems using analytics
  • Proven ability to collaborate across business and technical teams to solve problems, conduct analyses, and incorporate feedback into solutions
  • Proven ability to interpret large datasets, troubleshoot issues, and translate findings into actionable insights
  • Proven experience utilizing databases and data management technologies
  • Demonstrated aptitude and experience applying logical reasoning and mathematical concepts to analytical challenges
  • Demonstrated entry-level to intermediate experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience contributing to production codebases
  • Demonstrated experience using version control technologies such as Git and CI/CD pipelines
  • Proven experience working with at least one relational database platform, such as PostgreSQL, and exposure to modern data warehouse or cloud computing environments such as Azure Databricks
  • Demonstrated understanding of data pipeline engineering, testing frameworks, containerization technologies such as Docker, or related development practices
