This role on the Analytics Engineering team is based within Optum Insight as part of Payment Integrity Decision Intelligence(PIDI) organization. Optum is the technology and services division of UnitedHealth Group, the leading international health insurer. The roles of the Analytics Engineering team within PIDI include, but are not limited to analysis, design, coding, engineering, testing, debugging, standards, methods, tools analysis, documentation, research and development, maintenance, new development, operations, AI engineering and delivery. With every role in the company, each position has a requirement for building quality into every output. This also includes evaluating new tools, new techniques, strategies; Automation of common tasks; build of common utilities to drive organizational efficiency with a passion around technology and solutions and influence of thought and leadership on future capabilities and opportunities to apply technology in new and innovative ways.
We are now looking for an additional Lead Software Engineer to enhance our Software Engineering capacity to develop the analytics, analytic applications and analytic platforms in support of our business insights. As a key member of the Analytics Engineering Team, you will be part of UnitedHealth Group's mission of helping people live healthier lives. You will work with other Software Engineers and Data Scientists along with subject matter experts to deliver code with high quality for our applications, products and services.

What you will do:
- Serve as a technical lead contributing to and directing the efforts of development teams, including internal and external team members
- Lead end-to-end software engineering activities, including requirements analysis, system design, development, testing, deployment, and application support
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable, high-performance software applications and AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with emphasis on responsible use of AI
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools and emerging generative AI technologies to improve software design, development, testing, documentation, code review, and operational efficiency
- Evaluate, adopt, and promote AI-powered engineering practices that accelerate delivery while maintaining security, quality, compliance, and maintainability standards
- Partner with architecture, product, and engineering teams to identify opportunities to incorporate AI capabilities into products, platforms, and developer workflows
- Build and optimize data workflows and pipelines using Python, PySpark, and SQL to process large-scale datasets efficiently
- Research, evaluate, and deploy new tools, frameworks and patterns to build a sustainable Analytic platform
- Maintain and support CICD processes using GitHub Actions to test and build software artifacts
- Be innovative in solution design and development to meet the needs of the business
- Assist in defining product technical architecture
- Make accurate development effort estimates to assist management in project and resource planning
- Create prototypes, proof-of-concepts & design and code reviews
- Write technical documentation and participate in production support

What you will bring:
- Proven extensive hands-on experience in Software Development
- Proven experience working with Spark, PySpark, and Databricks
- Proven experience developing applications on at least one major cloud platform, including Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Other useful skills and experience include:
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent professional experience
- Proven experience working with NoSQL database technologies, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Proven experience within the healthcare industry
