The VP of OptumRx Actuarial, Analytics Underwriting & Pricing Model Development is a key leadership role within the OptumRx Pricing & Underwriting organization.  This role leads the Actuarial, Analytics, Model Development, and AI applications teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

The VP of OptumRx Actuarial, Analytics & Model Development is a key leadership role within the OptumRx Pricing & Underwriting organization. This role leads the Actuarial, Analytics, Model Development, and AI applications teams. Primary functions include:

  • Actuarial: Leads the organization to develop, maintain and provide organizational understanding of model inputs and assumptions. Leads the organization in trend, rebate, COGS, and SG&A forecasting. Identifies, assesses, and mitigates risk tied to financial guarantees. Maintains accuracy and agility in the underwriting model with respect to OptumRx business initiatives and stays ahead of new regulatory requirements to ensure the Underwriting Model maintains regulatory compliance  
  • AI applications: Drives the Pricing & Underwriting agenda with AI innovation, including Predictive, Generative, and Agentic AI models, in partnership with OptumTech and OptumRx Capabilities, and in accordance with UHG Responsible AI policies Analytics & Reporting: leads analyses to drive accurate inputs into the Underwriting Model and end to end functional reporting to help inform business strategy  
  • Model Development: Develops and maintains best-in-class applications used across the Underwriting Model ecosystem, leveraging the latest innovations in technology in solid partnership with OptumTech. Ensure applications are efficient, accurate, well-integrated with upstream and downstream applications in the OptumRx E2E process. Leads user training, addresses pain points and ensures applications are intuitive and efficient across all underwriting teams 
  • Underwriting & Pricing: Lead strategic bid strategies and decision making through an in-depth understanding of OptumRx and key competitors, industry trends, market dynamics and internal key performance indicators

Required Qualifications:

  • BA or equivalent degree 
  • Proven extensive years of work experience at large, complex, fast-paced organizations 
  • Proven extensive background in the pharmacy business, and solid UHG/Optum enterprise acumen 
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking coupled with a gritty and collaborative approach; ability to move fluidly from strategic to tactical with appropriate balance 
  • Demonstrated judgement to separate what's important vs. "noise", comfort with ambiguity 
  • Demonstrated deep systems thinking, ability to assess and anticipate program implications on the overall business 
  • Proven ability to quickly synthesize large volumes of information and drive to business decisions 
  • Proven track record managing the delivery of large-scale technology modernization and AI programs   
  • Proven high detail orientation 
  • Proven experience managing scope and resources, and meeting timelines and budget targets 
  • Demonstrated clear and succinct communication capabilities across varied audiences 
  • Demonstrated effective relationship building skills at all levels of the organization 
  • Proven solid business and financial acumen; including solid financial analysis, problem-solving, organization, critical thinking, and time management skills 
  • Demonstrated solid Leadership capabilities, action bias, and ability to communicate effectively and efficiently at multiple levels of large, complex organizations. Must be able to lead, manage and inspire people at all levels within the organization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree, MBA or FSA
