The Accounting Consultant is a mid-level finance professional responsible for supporting core accounting functions, including general ledger activities, financial analysis, and reporting. This role ensures accuracy, compliance with GAAP, and supports financial close and audit processes.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Accounting Consultant will support Optum Insight by:

  • Serve as a trusted accounting partner to business leaders, finance teams, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Lead monthly closing activities for assigned products or business areas, including full P&L and balance sheet ownership
  • Maintain general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries, including revenue, expense, and other required accruals, in accordance with GAAP and company policies
  • Perform account reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve complex accounting and financial reporting issues
  • Own or support revenue recognition and billing processes, including evaluating unique or complex arrangements
  • Analyze monthly financial results and prepare clear P&L and balance sheet variance commentary
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close and financial reporting activities, including preparation or review of financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Develop, document, implement, and maintain effective accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of accounting processes and reporting
  • Manage multiple priorities independently and collaborate with team members to ensure accurate and timely deliverables

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting including a solid understanding of GAAP and financial statement interaction
  • 3+ years of Accounting experience including month-end close, preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Proven to be a self-starter and solid time management
  • Proven to be organized and able to work on multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Proven solid communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven to anticipate customer needs and proactively develops solutions to meet them

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA designation
  • Experience with Peoplesoft Financials, Hyperion SmartView and Blackline
  • Public accounting experience
  • Technical accounting experience, including ASC606
  • Healthcare experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $72,800 - $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
