The Accounting Consultant role within Optum Insight Payment Integrity will primarily be responsible for leading the day-to-day execution of core accounting functions, including general ledger activities, financial analysis, and financial reporting. This role ensures accuracy, compliance with GAAP, and support of financial close, financial reporting, and audit processes in a rapidly growing and increasingly complex business.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office for a minimum of four days per week.
The preferred location for this position is the Eden Prairie, MN office.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as a trusted accounting partner to business leaders, finance teams, and cross-functional stakeholders across Optum and UHC organization
- Lead the month-end close process for assigned products, including general ledger review and journal entry preparation in accordance with GAAP and company policies
- Perform account reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve complex accounting and financial reporting issues
- Develop, document, implement, and maintain effective accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls
- Performing work in a self-directed manner solving complex accounting issues and transactions
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close and financial reporting activities, including preparation or review of financial statements and supporting schedules
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of accounting processes and reporting
- Manage multiple priorities independently and collaborate with team members to ensure accurate and timely deliverables
- Solve moderately complex problems and/or conduct moderately complex analyses

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and/or related field
- 3+ years of Accounting experience including month-end close, preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations
- Experience working with general ledger / sub-ledger accounting applications
- Demonstrated solid understanding and practical application of U.S. GAAP
- Demonstrated intermediate or higher level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Proven to be organized and able to work on multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a matrixed organizational structure within a mid- to large-sized organization
- Demonstrated solid problem-solving and analytical skills
- Demonstrated understanding of general ledger structures and accounts
- Experience with Peoplesoft Financials, Hyperion SmartView and Blackline
- Proven ability to demonstrate effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proven ability to work in both team and self-directed work environments
- Proven ability to solve moderately complex problems and / or conduct moderately complex analyses
- Proven ability to effectively prioritize and juggle multiple projects

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $72,800 - $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
