As a Capability Manager, you'll be responsible for leading the vision, definition, & execution of a product or group of products.  Capability Managers collaborate with business experts, developers, and technical architects to incorporate business requirements into backlogs, align priorities with the product roadmap, and deliver results within scope and budget.   Through these conversations, capability managers define the product vision from the point of view of multiple customers / users / stakeholders and play the critical role of documenting & prioritizing requirements.  As needed, Capability Managers may wear many hats on an agile scrum team, spanning writing features, writing / verifying / accepting user stories, prioritizing the product backlog, creating business process/data flows, and/or driving the execution of the team.

Role Details:

The individual selected for this role will focus on creating & scaling Provider data quality, transformation, and/or loading capabilities across UHG (e.g., Optum, UHC).    Business goals will typically focus on improving provider data accuracy and/or driving operational efficiency, with an emphasis on leveraging Artificial Intelligence and/or Automation capabilities across UHG's provider data ecosystem. 

Responsibilities:

  • Engage business leaders, teams & subject matter experts to prioritize needs.   Identify & document goals, value, & benefits. Build relationships with customers across UHG, infusing their voice throughout the product lifecycle
  • Create, document, & communicate a clear product vision & roadmap
  • Owns the product/capability P&L, partnering with finance and business operations leaders to ensure the capability roadmap meets agreed upon Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) objectives.  Often creates CBA deliverables in partnership with business and finance leaders
  • Ensures prioritized work aligns with the delivery of the agreed upon business value.  Able to understand the link between features / user stories & business goals (e.g. OKRs, KPIs)
  • Own the product lifecycle from ideation to development to release, spanning roadmap(s), development & release schedule(s), post launch performance, and business segment adoption
  • Provide clear product direction to the development team(s) responsible for delivering solutions.  Responsible for writing, refining & defining the features and user stories of a product. Responsible for making sure that there are always enough features & user stories in a state of "ready" in the backlog.  Provides a clear description and outline of product features and user stories, establishing acceptance criteria for easy comprehension by the development team.  Works with the development team to plan agile releases and set product deadlines
  • Lead all capability planning activities (e.g. PI Planning, PMC, Sprint Planning) to ensure development team is prepared for upcoming work.  Leads sprint reviews / demos.    Leads scrum meetings, often daily, to give feedback on sprint achievement, as well as to set sprint goals and relay new user stories
  • Partner with Director & VP levels to understand relative prioritization across products & teams as needed

Required:

  • 3+ years working on an Agile software development project(s) and/or equivalent experience 

  • 3+ years experience tracking, planning, and working on software development projects

  • Intermediate Level Microsoft Office skills (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, OneNote, SharePoint, PowerPoint)

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Health Administration or related field

  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence and/or machine learning capabilities, spanning personal use to use in product development

  • Agile Product Manager and/or Scrum Master Certification, or equivalent

  • Experience in Aha, CA Agile (formerly known as Rally), or equivalent agile deployment technology

  • Health care experience or internal experience within UnitedHealth Group (UHG)

  • Experience with data quality, stewardship, and governance

  • Familiarity with UHG's provider data ecosystem and related operational workflows

  • Experience building process flows and/or architecture design diagrams 

  • Ability to be the front face with the customer, while representing multiple technical capabilities that could apply to business needs

  • Ability to define and prioritize product backlogs, compose features and user stories, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely to leadership (Director level, minimally) and technical teams

  • Ability to execute strategic and tactical direction.  Able to lead & work through ambiguity.

  • Ability to work with individuals with high technical acumen (e.g. development teams, architects)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
