The role of the COS serves as the trusted voice and advisor to help determine, articulate, and execute the business vision, mission, planning, and strategies to achieve business goals and key strategic imperatives. This role proactively assumes responsibility for leading and executing on critical strategic initiatives and executive projects, responding to requests across the enterprise.  This role works collaboratively across the Sr. Leadership Team in Enterprise Clinical Services, with leaders across Optum Health, and with other Chief of Staffs across the organization to align and synchronize overarching business initiatives and priorities. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, high-impact, dynamic environment and in proactively identifying, and then moving quickly to action, on numerous key opportunities and deliverables simultaneously.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Provides leadership and guidance to critical strategic initiatives across Patient and Provider services organizations
  • Strategic long range and annual priority planning inclusive of MBO development
  • Owns and enforces the enterprise operating cadence (LT agendas, QBRs, MBRs, exec reviews)
  • Provides guidance to Executive Leader on ideation and key decisions
  • Coordinates with leaders across the organization to create better alignment with business partners, business segments, and functional areas
  • Accountable for Patient and Provider cost and capital management strategies
  • Proactively identifies areas requiring Executive Leader attention in a structured, solution-orientated format
  • Manages the development of MBOs / KPIs, ensures alignment across the team to deliver against goals and tracks progress against key milestones
  • Lead internal communications Patient and Provider Services and overall culture and experience initiatives
  • Leads strategic initiatives and critical projects and priorities on behalf of the Executive Leaders & Sr. Management team
  • May lead a team focused on execution of strategic initiatives and various deliverables

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of leadership experience with demonstrated experience directly and indirectly leading people
  • 8+ years professional experience in strategic planning, consulting, transformation, and/or operational leadership roles
  • Experience successfully translating a vision into implementation and results as well as leading enterprise level strategies
  • Deep understanding of strategy, operations, reporting and forecasting with a demonstrated ability to quickly aggregate and analyze information and draw conclusions

  • Exceptional collaborator, communicator, and executive presence; ability to communicate effectively and efficiently (both verbal and written) at multiple levels of a large, complex organization
  • Ability to predict, quickly understand, and act on business needs
  • Highly influential, strategic thinker, willing to challenge siloed thinking and drive change at all levels of the organization
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a track record of driving programs and projects in a matrix environment with demonstrated history of successfully managing complex and scaled initiatives
  • Ability to handle highly confidential or sensitive information in a professional, discreet manner
  • Exceptionally organized with excellent attention to detail

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $134,600 to $230,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
