At UnitedHealthcare, we're simplifying the health care experience, creating healthier communities, and removing barriers to quality care. The work you do here impacts the lives of millions of people for the better. Come build the health care system of tomorrow, making it more responsive, affordable, and equitable. Ready to make a difference? Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together.

The Network Program Consultant will support the UnitedHealthcare Community Plan Care Provider Manuals team within UHN Government Programs Strategies. This team is responsible for maintaining 36 care provider manuals for the Medicaid business, with care provider manuals typically ranging from 60 to 200+ pages and collaborating with health plan business owners to help ensure care provider manual content remains current, accurate, compliant, and useful for Medicaid care providers. This role will primarily focus on proofreading care provider manual content for grammar, clarity, consistency, and alignment with internal writing/style standards, then implementing approved updates within Adobe InDesign.

Approximately 85% of the role is dedicated to proofreading in Adobe Acrobat as well as editing and formatting the care provider manuals in InDesign. Much of this work is completed independently, so the ideal candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing focused document work while also collaborating effectively with the broader team and business partners. The work is not always black and white, so this role requires sound judgment, comfort navigating ambiguity, and the ability to balance quality, accuracy, and efficiency in a deadline-driven environment. Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to review large volumes of content while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.

The remaining 15% supports related operational activities, including reporting, hyperlink maintenance, governance support, and other documentation needs. We are seeking an enthusiastic, grammar-loving team player who is eager to hit the ground running and contribute to high-quality, care provider-facing manuals.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities - approximately 85% of role

  • Proofread UnitedHealthcare Community Plan care provider manuals for grammar, punctuation, spelling, clarity, consistency, and overall readability
  • Review care provider manual content to ensure alignment with our internal writing standards, established team formatting requirements, and care provider-facing communication expectations
  • Update Medicaid care provider manuals within Adobe InDesign by implementing stakeholder-approved edits accurately, consistently, and in accordance with established production standards
  • Identify content inconsistencies, potential errors, formatting concerns, and opportunities to improve clarity prior to publication
  • Apply formatting, layout, and publishing standards in Adobe InDesign to support a consistent, professional, and easy-to-navigate care provider-facing experience across all applicable care provider manuals
  • Collaborate with health plan business owners, subject matter experts, and internal partners to support timely updates that keep care provider manual content current and accurate for Medicaid care providers
  • Independently manage assigned care provider manual updates by organizing work, maintaining attention to detail, balancing competing priorities, meeting deadlines, and escalating questions or risks as appropriate
  • Apply sound judgment when proofreading and updating complex care provider manual content, balancing quality, accuracy, and efficiency to meet established turnaround times
  • Use Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, SharePoint, and related tools to support proofreading, editing, version control, and care provider manual delivery

Secondary support responsibilities - approximately 15% of role

  • Complete peer reviews across team deliverables and provide clear, actionable feedback
  • Support maintenance of two internal policies to help ensure content remains current, accurate, and compliant
  • Support care provider manual-related projects, internal reports, job aids, file archives, and continuous improvement efforts as needed

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional experience in proofreading, editing, technical writing, publishing, content production, or a related field
  • Advanced-to expert-level proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat. Candidates will be required to demonstrate Adobe knowledge as part of the interview process.
  • Strong proofreading and editing skills, including demonstrated expertise in grammar, punctuation, spelling, readability, and content quality
  • Experience working with established writing, editorial, formatting, or style-guide standards
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to review large volumes of content while maintaining a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, stay self-motivated, and manage detailed document updates with limited day-to-day direction
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, identify inconsistencies, ask thoughtful questions, and apply sound judgment in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with business owners, subject matter experts, and internal stakeholders
