The Principal Storage Engineer is responsible for the technical strategy, engineering oversight, capacity planning, and operational stewardship of enterprise storage and infrastructure platforms. This role provides engineering leadership for storage, data protection, automation, and infrastructure modernization initiatives while ensuring platform reliability, scalability, performance, and cost optimization across the enterprise.

The Principal Storage Engineer partners with architecture, engineering, operations, product teams, and business stakeholders to design and manage storage services that support critical business applications and data workloads.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of enterprise storage platforms
  • Develop technical standards and engineering best practices for storage, backup, and data management solutions
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend strategic platform improvements
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor for infrastructure modernization and transformation efforts
  • Own storage capacity forecasting, utilization reporting, and growth modeling
  • Analyze platform consumption trends and develop recommendations for expansion, consolidation, and optimization
  • Create executive and operational reports supporting infrastructure investment decisions
  • Manage storage inventory, refresh planning, and technology lifecycle activities
  • Drive automation initiatives that improve provisioning, monitoring, deployment, and operational efficiency
  • Simplify operational processes to reduce manual effort and improve service delivery
  • Provide engineering guidance to project teams, infrastructure teams, and operational support groups
  • Lead technical reviews, solution design discussions, and complex troubleshooting efforts
  • Mentor engineers and promote knowledge sharing across the organization
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts involving storage, compute, networking, and data protection teams
  • Ensure platform availability, resiliency, performance, and recoverability
  • Support incident management, root-cause analysis, and corrective action planning
  • Establish metrics and dashboards that measure infrastructure health and operational effectiveness

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of extensive experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering
  • 8+ years of deep knowledge of storage technologies, SAN, NAS, object storage, and data protection solutions
  • 5+ years of experience leading large-scale technology projects and cross-functional initiatives
  • 4+ years experience with capacity planning, utilization analytics, and infrastructure forecasting
  • 3+ years of experience with infrastructure automation, scripting, and process optimization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with enterprise storage platforms such as Pure Storage, HPE storage solutions, and related ecosystem technologies
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring, observability, and reporting platforms
  • Experience building executive-level operational and capacity reporting
  • Knowledge of cloud storage architectures and hybrid infrastructure environments
  • Proven excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
