The Privacy Consultant will work at the direction of the Enterprise Privacy Office Leadership Team and assist the entire team with day-to-day management of privacy office affairs for Optum.  The primary function of the Privacy Consultant is to conduct and manage investigations into reports of privacy and security incidents across multiple lines of business.  This position is required to handle multiple tasks and work streams simultaneously in a fast-paced, highly matrixed corporate environment.  The Privacy Consultant will also provide privacy and data security guidance to Optum business areas and will coordinate with various internal departments to ensure operational and procedural compliance with state and federal regulations as necessary. 

Experience working in a large, complex organization in a legal or regulatory compliance role is desirable.  Health care privacy experience preferred, as well as a solid understanding of HIPAA, state privacy, and data security rules and regulations.  Information Technology/Data Security experience is desirable.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Perform, manage and track a high volume of privacy and security investigations, frequently with high-risk issues and/or cyber events
  • Perform factual investigations and complex data analysis, conduct interviews, develop risk analysis, and advise on mitigation and corrective actions
  • Ensure reporting / notification requirements related to privacy and security investigations are met
  • Assist with privacy awareness training and specific course content development as needed, based on issue/incident experience 
  • Assist the team in advising and counseling on state/federal regulatory requirements in privacy and data security
  • Collaborate with UHC and UHG privacy segments as well as Information Technology and Information Risk Management areas on enterprise-wide objectives

Required Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years of experience in health care, legal, compliance, regulatory affairs OR business roles, OR IT Data Management/IT Security, non-health care privacy compliance, OR investigations experience   in fraud, white collar OR cyber/technology-based crimes
  • Ability to manage a significant and diverse workload with short turnaround times and firm deadlines
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven excellent organizational skills
  • Proven excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills 
  • Ability and flexibility to effectively work within a constantly evolving business and regulatory environment

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • CIPP/US and/or CIPM certification
  • Experience with federal and state regulatory agencies
  • Proven understanding of health insurance, health care service delivery and/or the managed care industry
  • Proven success in collaborating across a matrixed business and legal environment
  • Proven ability to build and maintain rapport with superiors, peers, subordinates, and external company contacts

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
