We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join the Optum Care data Platform team. The ideal candidate is passionate about leveraging data to deliver meaningful value to customers, while fostering innovation and continuous improvement within our organization.
You will enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and implement robust data pipelines to ingest, transform, and store healthcare data from a variety of enterprise sources
- Analyze raw data sources and define structural requirements for new applications, including data transformation processes
- Develop comprehensive source-to-target mappings to ensure data integrity and traceability
- Identify, design, and implement internal process enhancements, such as:
- Automating manual workflows
- Optimizing data delivery and scalability
- Applying an AI-first mindset to uncover new opportunities
- Tackle complex and less structured technical challenges with innovative solutions
- Serve as a technical leader and mentor, guiding team members and fostering knowledge sharing
Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to enhance productivity and innovation by streamlining workflows and automating repetitive tasks. Evaluate emerging trends to drive continuous improvement and strategic innovation.

Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years of data engineering experience, with a proven track record of building and supporting production-grade data pipelines
- 6+ years of advanced SQL experience, including complex query design, performance tuning, stored procedures, and data quality validation logic
- 6+ years of experience working with both structured and semi-structured data ingestion patterns, schema validation, and data contract enforcement across systems
- 3+ years of experience collaborating across team, working closely with analysts, product managers, and platform/cloud engineers to deliver reliable data solutions
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in healthcare data analysis
- 1+ years of experience with Snowflake, Databricks, and Kafka
- 1+ years of experience using Rally and working within scrum teams in an agile environment
Soft Skills:
- Strong documentation and communication skills, with experience owning technical runbooks and operational handoff materials

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
