We are hiring a Sr. DevOps Engineer to support multiple business domains within Optum Financial. This role is critical for the development of new products and enhancements within the Consumer Payments area. The team is building secure, cloud‑based, modern payment capabilities that expand and improve the overall product ecosystem. The DevOps engineer will also operate as an AI User, utilizing AI-powered tools to boost productivity, streamline workflows, and automate repetitive processes.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM

Location: Remote, Nationwide

You will enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure with a primary focus on Azure and Kubernetes environments
  • Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to ensure scalable, secure, and reliable deployments
  • Build and maintain tooling, pipelines, and automation that support release, deployment, and upgrade processes across environments
  • Implement and manage observability solutions, including automated deployment of Datadog monitors, dashboards, and alerting through Terraform
  • Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to ensure applications and infrastructure meet organizational security, compliance, and governance requirements
  • Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure costs, identifying and implementing cost‑saving opportunities while retaining performance and reliability
  • Serve as a liaison between development and operations teams to improve communication, enhance collaboration, and accelerate product delivery
  • Contribute to a continuous delivery platform, supporting Agile development with stable, scalable, and easily deployable environments
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of development processes, programming concepts, and modern DevOps practices to continuously improve platform reliability and developer productivity

Required Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or cloud infrastructure roles, with hands‑on work in Azure or similar cloud platforms
  • 3+ years of experience with Terraform or another infrastructure‑as‑code framework (e.g., Pulumi, CloudFormation)
  • 3+ years of experience managing Kubernetes environments, including deployment, scaling, and cluster operations
  • 3+ years of experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitHub Actions or comparable tools
  • 1+ years of experience deploying and managing observability systems, including Datadog, OpenTelemetry, or similar platforms
  • 1+ years of experience automating deployment of monitoring dashboards, alerts, and telemetry integrations using IaC

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in healthcare technology is preferred

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to partner effectively across engineering, operations, and security teams

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
