Position Overview
UnitedHealth Group is seeking a visionary enterprise leader to shape the future of workforce strategy, AI modernization, and organizational capability at Fortune 3 scale.
Reporting to the VP of Talent & Workforce Strategy, this role will lead the evolution of enterprise workforce strategy, AI-enabled workforce modernization, and skills-powered workforce strategy. The Senior Director will build the frameworks, insights, and enterprise rhythms needed to align workforce supply, demand, skills, and organizational capability with evolving business priorities, AI disruption, labor market dynamics, and the future of work.
This role operates at the intersection of business strategy, workforce planning, and organizational evolution - translating enterprise business priorities into future workforce capability requirements, organizational design implications, and AI-enabled work evolution.
The leader will integrate external healthcare and technology trends, internal talent analytics, and business priorities into actionable workforce strategy that shapes enterprise investment decisions, skills development, workforce movement, and work design across the organization.
This is not an operational HR role. It is a future-focused enterprise strategy role designed to help UHG proactively shape the workforce of tomorrow. A key expectation of this role is to bring deep external perspective and large-scale transformation expertise to help navigate complexity, align disparate efforts, and accelerate progress beyond pilots and fragmented workstreams toward enterprise adoption. This leader will complement existing capability owners by focusing on scale, integration, and acceleration - ensuring the organization moves faster, with greater clarity, and with measurable enterprise impact.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the enterprise workforce strategy by translating business priorities, AI modernization, and external market trends into forward-looking workforce capability, organizational design, and talent strategies
- Partner with People Business Partners (PBPs) and Strategic Workforce Planning leaders to deliver macro-level workforce insights, scenario planning, benchmarking, and workforce intelligence while enabling PBPs to operationalize workforce planning within their business areas
- Develop enterprise frameworks, tools, and strategic workforce narratives that help leaders understand workforce shifts, future skill needs, workforce risks, and evolving labor market dynamics
- Identify critical skills, leadership archetypes, and evolving role requirements while shaping build, buy, borrow, reskill, and automation strategies in partnership with PBPs, Talent Acquisition, Talent, and Learning teams
- Integrate workforce analytics, business strategy, healthcare and technology trends, talent data, and AI insights into actionable recommendations and executive workforce briefings
- Lead enterprise AI workforce modernization efforts, including work deconstruction, workflow redesign, workforce transition planning, and human + AI operating models that elevate productivity and human contribution
- Establish practical frameworks and guidance that help leaders and PBPs rethink how work gets done in an AI-enabled environment and advance a skills-powered organization
- Serve as an enterprise integrator across workforce strategy, AI modernization, People strategy, and business priorities to drive enterprise alignment, scalable adoption, and organizational readiness
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of both human talent and AI agents to scale workforce intelligence, strategic insight generation, and enterprise workforce enablement

Required Qualifications:
- 15+ years of leadership experience in workforce strategy, strategic workforce planning, organizational reimagination, consulting, HR strategy, or enterprise strategy
- Experience building enterprise frameworks, operating models, and strategic planning capabilities
- Solid understanding of AI, automation, workforce modernization, and the future of work
- Demonstrated success leading enterprise-wide workforce planning or workforce reimagination initiatives within large, matrixed organizations
- Proven ability to influence senior executives and drive alignment across complex organizations
- Proven exceptional strategic thinking, executive communication, and enterprise storytelling capabilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience within Fortune 100 or similarly complex global organizations
- Experience advancing skills-based workforce strategies and capability frameworks
- Background in management consulting, workforce strategy, organizational effectiveness, or enterprise reimagination
- Familiarity with workforce analytics, labor market intelligence, and AI-enabled workforce technologies

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $159,300 - $273,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
