The Senior Director of Software Engineering is responsible for leading a large-scale engineering organization delivering consumer-facing digital products and platforms supporting personalization, communications, onboarding, preferences, and customer experience initiatives. This leader will drive technology strategy, engineering execution, organizational effectiveness, and business partnership across a complex portfolio of products and services.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise, proven leadership of managers and engineering organizations, and exceptional business partnership skills. This individual will lead through influence, drive delivery of complex technology initiatives, remove organizational obstacles, and ensure teams execute against strategic business objectives while advancing modern engineering practices and AI-enabled software development.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop a multi-layer engineering organization consisting of managers, senior managers, and software engineering teams
- Partner closely with business and product leaders to align technology investments with business outcomes and customer needs
- Provide technical leadership across architecture, software development, platform modernization, and engineering delivery
- Drive execution of complex, enterprise-scale technology initiatives and ensure successful delivery of strategic priorities
- Establish and maintain engineering excellence through modern software development practices, DevSecOps, automation, and continuous delivery
- Influence business and product stakeholders to make informed technology decisions and investments
- Remove organizational barriers, address execution challenges, and enable teams to deliver efficiently at scale
- Foster a high-performance engineering culture focused on accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Leverage AI-enabled engineering capabilities to improve software development velocity, quality, and operational efficiency
- Build solid relationships across engineering, product, architecture, operations, and executive leadership teams

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
- 12+ years of progressive software engineering leadership experience
- Experience leading managers and multi-layer engineering organizations
- Demonstrated success delivering large-scale software products, platforms, or enterprise technology initiatives
- Proven experience partnering directly with business and product leaders to influence priorities, investments, and strategic decisions
- Proven solid software architecture, system design, and technical leadership capabilities
- Experience leading cloud-native engineering organizations utilizing modern software development practices
- Demonstrated ability to drive execution, remove obstacles, and deliver results in complex matrixed environments
- Proven exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and organizational leadership skills
- Experience incorporating AI tools and capabilities into software engineering practices and delivery processes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Healthcare technology experience
- Financial services or other highly regulated industry experience
- Experience supporting consumer-facing digital platforms
- Demonstrated background in personalization, communications, onboarding, customer experience, or product delivery organizations
- Experience leading modernization, transformation, or platform engineering initiatives
- Experience scaling engineering organizations while maintaining delivery excellence and technical quality

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $159,300 to $273,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
