The Senior Financial Consultant - Capital Finance is a trusted financial advisor and strategic partner supporting Optum Rx and Pharmacy Care Services (PCS) leadership. This role plays a critical part in the planning, governance, and execution of the PCS capital portfolio, representing approximately $170M in annual capital spend.

In this role, you will provide financial and operational oversight across capital planning, business case development, forecasting, variance analysis, and performance reporting. You will serve as a key liaison between PCS leadership, Finance, and enterprise capital governance teams, ensuring alignment with UnitedHealth Group standards and driving disciplined capital execution.

Primary Responsibilities:
Capital Portfolio Oversight & Governance

  • Serve as the Capital Finance lead supporting the Optum Rx PCS capital investment portfolio
  • Support development, prioritization, and execution of the capital plan, ensuring effective deployment of capital resources
  • Manage capital planning processes, including budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting, and variance analysis
  • Provide visibility into capital investments, benefits realization, and overall P&L impact
  • Ensure adherence to enterprise capital governance processes, controls, and reporting requirements

Financial Analysis & Strategic Decision Support

  • Analyze complex financial and operational challenges using advanced financial modeling and analytics
  • Support business case development and capital investment evaluation with data-driven insights and recommendations
  • Perform ad hoc analyses to inform capital prioritization, cost optimization, and strategic initiatives
  • Identify risks and opportunities in capital performance and recommend actionable solutions

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner with PCS leadership, Finance, Product, IT, and enterprise governance teams to align on capital priorities and performance
  • Act as a key liaison between business and finance stakeholders to drive integrated planning, reporting, and accountability
  • Influence decision-making through strong financial insight, business acumen, and communication

Performance Reporting & Forecasting

  • Lead capital forecasting, variance analysis, and performance tracking to ensure accuracy and accountability
  • Deliver actionable insights to improve forecast precision and capital efficiency
  • Enhance reporting and analytics to improve visibility and decision support for senior leadership

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in financial planning & analysis, accounting, or related finance roles
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial systems (e.g., Essbase, PeopleSoft)

Preferred Strengths:

  • Experience supporting capital planning, governance, or large investment portfolios
  • Advanced financial modeling and forecasting experience
  • Ability to operate effectively in a highly matrixed environment
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex financial processes and deliver actionable insights
  • Solid communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
