Mission and Purpose - This role is focused on:
- Driving complex corporate, market group, and business segment projects/initiatives to completion through design, implementation and maintenance phases. Advocates for their business while keeping the overarching enterprise programs in mind and adapting when appropriate. Focus is on providing compensation consulting and analytical support for the OptumHealth Care Delivery organizations and is the overarching strategy partner for OptumHealth
- This position acts as an internal and external consultant to the organization, developing analytic methodologies and report formats. Responsibilities include assisting with the process of collection, analysis and reporting of data specific to organization wide care delivery and overall OptumHealth organization to ensure consistent, timely and accurate payments
- As part of the Optum senior compensation leadership team assist in the design and implementation of complex business segment compensation strategies, policies, programs, and communications within either the corporate or OptumHealth specific compensation and total rewards philosophy framework
- Assist the compensation leadership in the design, implementation, and maintenance of the most complex and state-of-the-art corporate and OptumHealth specific compensation programs and products and represent the business segments in corporate design efforts
- Serves as the primary compensation strategy partner to the OptumHealth SVP People Team, reviews the development of compensation priorities that align with Optum Health's business strategy, workforce strategy, clinical delivery model, financial objectives, and enterprise compensation philosophy
- Direct responsibility for the OptumHealth Care Delivery organization compensation team and partners with the Sr. Director Compensation for the Care Solutions organizations to represent a unified support model to the SVP People Team for OptumHealth

For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Partner directly with the OH SVP People Team and VP Optum Compensation to shape the OptumHealth compensation strategy agenda, including prioritization of provider and care delivery compensation initiatives, home health initiatives, alignment to talent and workforce objectives, governance expectations, change management approach, and executive-ready recommendations for senior leadership decision-making
- Translate enterprise and/or segment specific compensation philosophies into an OptumHealth-specific strategy in partnership with the VP Optum Compensation, ensuring solutions are practical for local care delivery operations while maintaining enterprise consistency, governance, and affordability
- Responsible for care delivery and OH compensation project work including design, consulting, implementation and administration of physician compensation programs, assemble compensation packages, analytic support of physician compensation programs
- Gain consensus on Optum Health's compensation philosophy and desired strategy
- Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of healthcare and financial data to support program management for all roles in care delivery This includes analyzing compensation plans of existing businesses and providing summary for leadership review
- Provide recommendations on compensation models and metrics that incents care delivery, home health, and health services productivity and performance and aligns with the organizational and financial objectives of the business Assist leadership with determining desired market position for base and total cash compensation
- In collaboration with the business and leaders, develop general compensation design template (with decision making on metrics at local level)
- Act as an internal and external consultant to the OptumHealth Care Delivery organization, responsible for building strong relationships with senior leaders of each business to ensure effective compensation solutions and strengthen employee engagement In partnership with the VP Enterprise Provider Compensation ensures alignment across the employee populations
- Salary survey participation and analysis, and conduct annual review of market data and communicate compensation range information
- Conduct annual review of market data and communicate range information Performs annual compensation reviews Provides compensation support through survey participation and analysis, assembling compensation packages, conducting analyses requested by the governing board of the clinic
- Liaison for participation in external surveys provides annual presentation of survey information to leaders
- Performs compensation functions such as implementing/administration of employee compensation programs, assembling compensation packages, participating in salary surveys and analyzing survey data, providing analytic support on compensation projects
- Works on the most complex compensation projects Independently drives and completes the projects with little to no oversight
- Work with the senior compensation leadership to proactively identify value added compensation initiatives
- Works directly with People Team Partners on complex field-initiated projects, generally with no oversight
- Evaluates new executive jobs for appropriate title and grade, typically at the Sr Director and above levels
- Remain abreast of best practices and thoughts in the compensation field
- Directly manage a large team of Compensation resources in the design and administration of sales incentives and total reward programs

Required Qualifications:
- Professional certifications, such as CCP
- 10+ years of compensation experience, including experience with analysis and understanding compensation metrics This includes business acumen and an understanding of physician practices
- Experience working in a human resources or business function with a strategic business partner and shared service delivery model solidly preferred
- Deep understanding of and practical experience in applied compensation principles, methods and tools including technical expertise in a multiple of the following: market analysis, compensation program design, development, and implementation, variable pay (including sales), salary planning/forecasting, acquisitions, and alternative reward design techniques
- Proven ability to demonstrate their ability to partner with multiple constituents, manage in a matrix relationship environment, strengthen and deliver on our Compensation agenda, and drive positive changes in a high-performance setting
- Demonstrated ability to measure and evaluate effectiveness of compensation initiatives
- Proven solid business and financial acumen
- Proven leadership consulting skills from assessment through implementation
- Proven solid history of quickly building relationships, gaining credibility, influencing and partnering with business leaders and human capital peers across the organization
- Proven solid change management skills
Preferred Qualification:
- 10+ years of experience, with demonstrated management and high-level project management lead experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $159,300 - $273,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
