Position in this function is under the direction of the Chief Pharmacy Officer, the VP, Clinical Market Strategy will serve as executive liaison between the Clinical Affairs organization and the OptumRx Growth team. This highly visible leadership role is accountable for ensuring that the company's clinical capabilities, programs, outcomes, and value proposition are effectively represented throughout the sales lifecycle. This individual partners closely with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Executive Leadership to drive commercial success by providing strategic clinical leadership and support during key prospect sales opportunities, strengthening competitive positioning, and ensuring that all customer-facing clinical content reflects current evidence, market dynamics, and organizational differentiation.
This executive also serves as a senior-level clinical representative during high-profile customer engagements, including finalist presentations, executive briefings, consultant interactions, and strategic account pursuits

Primary Responsibilities:
- Clinical Growth & Retention Senior Leadership
- Serve as a key executive representative for OptumRx Clinical Affairs across all strategic growth and retention activities
- Partner with Sales leadership to develop winning strategies for complex and high-value opportunities
- Participate in executive-level meetings with prospective clients, consultants, strategic partners, and industry stakeholders
- Effectively represent the clinical organization during finalist presentations, executive briefings, and other critical customer interactions
- Strategic Sales Support
- Understand the core selling process, adapt style, and effectively articulate our organizational clinical value proposition and strategy to prospective clients during the sales process
- Provide clinical leadership, guidance and support throughout the sales process, translating clinical capabilities into compelling business value
- Collaborate with account teams and marketing to ensure clinical solutioning and messaging is differentiated and tailored to the specific line of business
- Advise on opportunity strategy, customer objections, and competitive positioning
- Support proposal development and ensure that RFP clinical responses are kept up-to-date and represent our most impactful positioning and expertise
- Conduct routine independent assessment of key sales prospects to better understand their business, current market position, culture, and key clinical areas of focus/priority to ensure proper positioning of OptumRx programs, services and sales messaging
- Clinical Analytics & Market Insights
- Partner with IT and Analytics teams to direct the development and continuous refinement of pre-sales clinical analytics that clearly demonstrate projected program performance, outcomes, and value for prospect clients
- Ensure clinical data and outcomes are presented in ways that are clear and resonate with executive decision-makers
- Partner with analytics teams to continuously enhance other sales enablement resources
- Competitive Intelligence
- Lead competitive intelligence efforts related to clinical programs, service offerings, quality outcomes, innovation, and market positioning
- Monitor competitor capabilities, emerging market trends, regulatory developments, and customer expectations
- Translate competitive insights into actionable sales strategies and messaging
- Advise clinical product teams relative to areas of opportunity
- Clinical Marketing & Sales Enablement
- Oversee the development, review, and maintenance of all clinical sales collateral, presentations, case studies, and supporting materials
- Ensure all clinical messaging is evidence-based, current, compliant, and clearly differentiates the organization's capabilities
- Partner with Marketing to continuously evolve clinical value propositions and thought leadership content
- Consultant & Industry Engagement
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with healthcare consultants, industry advisors, and influential market stakeholders
- Actively engage in and represent the organization in key managed care pharmacy societies, conferences, industry forums, and customer events
- Ensure the organization is effectively positioned as a recognized clinical thought leader within the marketplace
- Cross-Functional Leadership
- Foster strong collaboration among Clinical Affairs, Sales, Marketing, Product, Operations, Executive Leadership and key Optum Enterprise partners
- Identify emerging customer needs and market opportunities that inform future clinical program development
- Champion a customer-centric approach that aligns clinical excellence with commercial growth

Required Qualifications:
- PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
- Current and unrestricted Pharmacist license (any state)
- 10+ years of progressive healthcare leadership experience, including a minimum of 5+ years of managed care pharmacy-specific (e.g., PBM, health plan, other payer) experience
- Experience leading executive-level customer presentations and prospect sales pursuits
- Experience analyzing population-based pharmacy utilization data and interpreting and presenting findings/recommendations
- Knowledge of competitive intelligence methodologies and market strategy
- Advanced understanding of healthcare quality, clinical outcomes, value-based care, and PBM-level data/analytics
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Office suite and Outlook
- Demonstrated success partnering with commercial organizations in business development, strategic sales, and customer-facing executive partnerships
- Proven advanced executive presence with exceptional presentation and communication skills
- Ability to travel up to 40%
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of client facing or clinical account management experience
- Experience supporting large enterprise sales organizations
- Experience and understanding of Medicare Part D
- Experience with Medicaid

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $159,300 - $273,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
