The VP Enterprise Growth (Individual Contributor) leads partnership origination, solutioning, and deal negotiation for the largest partnerships in the Optum Insight business, often spanning the entirety of UHG for the entire U.S. market. Reporting to the Optum Insight Provider Market SVP, National and Enterprise Partnership Accounts, this strategic leader is charged with developing and executing partnership strategies to achieve market growth and profitability in delivering Provider solutions to our customers.
In this role, you will work across Optum Insight, Optum Health, and Optum Rx to align on customer plans, engage matrixed teams in support of national enterprise objectives, and display exceptional executive presence with C-Suite executives and Board of Directors. This role carries an annual target, to be finalized in alignment with enterprise sales leadership, and leverages outstanding interpersonal and collaboration skills to drive highly complex territory and account plan strategies.

For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Pipeline Generation & Prospecting: Own direct pipeline generation for enterprise opportunities by leveraging personal networks, market presence, and executing targeted prospecting strategies (such as account mapping, executive entry points, and event-driven outreach) to convert new client relationships into qualified pursuits
  • Pursuit & Matrix Partner Leadership: Act as the strategic quarterback and overall pursuit leader for qualified enterprise opportunities; direct, influence, and coordinate diverse, cross-functional matrix partner teams (spanning solutioning, pricing, legal, communications, operations, and human capital) to align on complex commercial structures from design through contract execution
  • Client Needs Discovery & Qualification: Lead early discovery to define client needs, urgency, and strategic fit; translate into clear problem statements, initial scopes, and value hypotheses while driving qualification discipline to manage opportunity flow through the funnel
  • C-Suite & Board Engagement: Navigate complex provider types and buying personas, establishing and maintaining executive relationships from first contact through deal close, serving as a trusted partner to large health system executives and Board members
  • Matrix Alignment & Customer Centricity: Drive outcomes with internal matrix stakeholders across Optum Insight, Optum Health, and Optum Rx to ensure customer centricity, high Net Promoter Scores (NPS), and delivery against client expectations, while representing the voice of the customer internally
  • Market Intimacy & Strategic Input: Champion market intimacy by aggregating client feedback to influence organizational accountability, and provide strategic, future-state industry input to Product, Operations, and service delivery teams
  • Deal Approval & Transition Management: Present comprehensive solutions and deal economics to internal stakeholders to secure approvals, manage de-scoping decisions and delivery risks, and ensure a clean post-signature handoff to delivery leadership
  • Accountability & Performance Delivery: Hold teams accountable for executing account growth plans, delivering strategies impacting key performance drivers (price, risk profile, utilization, revenue), and exceeding operating targets, SLAs, and MBOs
  • AI & Analytical Innovation Integration: Strategically leverage advanced technologies, data analytics, and enterprise AI tools to solve client problems, unlock growth opportunities, and design next-generation partnership offerings that deliver tangible business value
  • Responsible Tech Deployment: Champion the ethical use of AI and emerging technologies in solution delivery by embedding transparency, fairness, and accountability across the entire solution and deployment lifecycle  
  • Cultural Leadership: Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment that effectively represents Our United Culture and UnitedHealth Group values internally and externally

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive sales, growth programs, or business development leadership experience within the healthcare or financial industries
  • 5+ years of experience in managed services, client advisory services, or complex enterprise deal negotiation
  • Proven experience driving trust-based relationships with healthcare C-suite executives and Board of Directors
  • Demonstrated track record of outstanding matrix leadership, with proven ability to influence, align, and drive accountability across diverse cross-functional internal partner teams without direct-line authority
  • Proven capability to travel up to 50% of the time on a sustained basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a related field (e.g., Master's in Business Administration or healthcare-related field)
  • Experience working across UnitedHealth Group lines of business (Optum Insight, Optum Health, Optum Rx, or UnitedHealthcare)
  • Direct experience partnering with product and technology teams to deploy innovative technology, analytics, or automated AI solutions to solve healthcare operations challenges
  • Background in large-scale Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO), or managed services deal structuring
  • Proficient knowledge of servant leadership, resilience, and change management methodologies within a matrixed environment

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $200,400 to $343,500 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
