The VP, Portfolio Strategy, Commercialization and Transformation owns the enterprise portfolio strategy and product development lifecycle for Optum Insight Product. This leader ensures product concepts are grounded in payer and provider priorities, validated against market demand, advanced through disciplined investment and governance decisions, and designed for differentiated, scalable commercialization. The role integrates portfolio strategy, product ideation and validation, build, buy and partner choices, commercialization readiness, and transformation priorities across a complex, matrixed organization.

For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
Champion responsible for AI as a core driver of product strategy and team performance, shaping how AI-enabled capabilities are prioritized, developed, deployed, measured, and scaled
Define and maintain the multiyear Optum Insight Product portfolio strategy, including market priorities, growth vectors, capability gaps, adjacencies, and expansion opportunities
Translate payer and provider business models, workflows, economics, regulatory dynamics, technology needs, and client pain points into actionable product and portfolio priorities
Assess market demand and apply deep knowledge of payer and provider needs, workflows, and capabilities to shape interoperable solutions that connect across the healthcare ecosystem
Establish consistent standards for product ideation, discovery, market testing, value proposition development, business case creation, and evidence-based validation before investment
Shape portfolio and roadmap decisions by recommending where to invest, accelerate, integrate, consolidate, rationalize, acquire, or partner based on market value, strategic fit, feasibility, and financial return
Drive coherence across products and platforms to create integrated, client-centered solutions while preserving clear stand-alone market propositions where appropriate
Set commercialization readiness standards across the portfolio, including priority buyers, use cases, positioning, value articulation, pricing inputs, entry points, expansion pathways, and measurable client outcomes
Partners with Product, Technology, Finance, Implementation, Sales, Client Management, Strategy, and Growth leaders to convert portfolio strategy into funded roadmaps and disciplined market execution
Lead cross-functional portfolio governance, bringing transparent tradeoffs, investment choices, risks, dependencies, and recommendations to senior leadership
Define strategic build, buy, and partner recommendations and connect AI, automation, data, globalization, workforce, and operating model choices to portfolio direction

Required Qualifications:
15+ years of experience in product strategy, portfolio strategy, corporate strategy, consulting, commercialization, transformation, or a related leadership function
10+ years of experience leading enterprise strategy, product portfolio, or growth initiatives in complex, matrixed organizations
5+ years of experience with payer and provider markets, including demonstrated understanding of healthcare economics, client workflows, data, analytics, technology, and regulatory considerations.
Deep payer and provider portfolio knowledge across clinical, administrative, financial, and technology workflows
Experience governing products through an end-to-end product development lifecycle, including ideation, validation, investment, development, launch, commercialization, performance management, and lifecycle optimization
Experience applying AI, automation, and advanced analytics to product strategy, product development, or commercialization
Track record of shaping portfolio roadmaps, investment allocation, and build, buy, or partner decisions tied to client value and measurable business outcomes
Demonstrated ability to integrate product, technology, financial, operational, and commercial perspectives into scalable growth strategies
Executive presence and ability to influence senior stakeholders, align cross-functional teams, and drive decisions without direct authority
Ability and willingness to travel 15 to 25%

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $200,400 to $343,500 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
