Under direction of the Residency Program Director, the PGY1 Pharmacy Resident will build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work providing direct patient care. Obtain and evaluate patient medication regimens, allergies and past/current medical history. Design, recommend and monitor patient specific therapeutic regimens with evidence-based medicine. Use collaborative drug therapy management protocols for disease state management. Examples include diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and pain management
  • Participate and support guideline, pathway, and other disease management efforts. Participate in providing drug use feedback to providers using available data
  • Complete a pharmacy resident project with the potential to improve/expand clinical pharmacy services at Oregon Medical Group
  • Attend ASHP Midyear and participate in the residency showcase for recruiting of future PGY1 residents to Oregon Medical Group
  • Lead/present in educational sessions to medical providers, pharmacist colleagues, and/or Oregon Medical Group patients as instructed by RPD or other preceptors
  • Collaborates with nurse care managers to provide expert advice on prescribing practices for selected patients with complex and unstable disease to improve their health and prevent unnecessary hospital and emergency care costs
  • Professional Practice: Remain current in pharmaceutical regulations and applicable laws, and advises Oregon Medical Group to ensure compliance
  • Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee participation as an ad hoc member. Conduct formulary reviews and drug monographs

Required Qualifications:

  • PharmD candidate
  • Oregon Board of Pharmacy Intern or Registered Pharmacist license by the start date of the program
  • Registered Pharmacist in the State of Oregon no later than September 1st of the first year of the program


Preferred Qualifications:

  • PharmD
  • Licensed as a pharmacy intern or graduate intern in the state of employment prior to start date
  • Research experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of specialty pharmacy practice with a desire to pursue a career in specialty pharmacy
  • Demonstrated practice of and high-level skill in multi-tasking, championing change, initiative, customer service, interpersonal relations including building relationships and resolving conflict, decision making, problem solving, teamwork, and verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to work in fast-paced specialty environment
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain honesty, integrity, and high levels of efficiency and accuracy at all times

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $55,000 to $85,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
