As a per diem, nonexempt Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in helping patients regain independence and improve their quality of life by developing personalized rehabilitation plans for those with mental, developmental, or physical challenges. You will collaborate with patients, families, and care teams to deliver safe and effective patient centered care tailored to each individual's needs. This is a hands-on opportunity to make a meaningful impact while applying your clinical expertise and tech-savvy documentation skills. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Evaluating patients by assessing physical, cognitive, emotional, and environmental factors that affect daily functioning and review medical histories and observe patients performing activities. 
  • Create individualized treatment plans and therapy goals based on the patient's needs, diagnosis, and personal objectives and modify plans as needed.
  • Improve activities of daily living by helping patients perform tasks such as dressing, bathing, grooming, eating, cooking, and managing household responsibilities as well as teaching adaptive techniques to increase independence as needed. 
  • Use therapeutic activities, exercises, and functional training to improve strength, coordination, cognition, and fine motor skills and address any barriers caused by injury, illness, disability, or developmental conditions.
  • Evaluate the need for devices such as splints, grab bars, dressing aids, wheelchairs, and other assistive technology and train patients on proper use. 
  • Recommend home, school, or workplace modifications to improve safety and accessibility. 
  • Teach caregivers and family members strategies to support the patient's independence and safety. 
  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, social workers, and other professionals to coordinate care.

Location: Hillsdale Hospital, located in Hillsdale, MI, is a 97-bed acute care facility, offering medical-surgical, emergency, behavioral health, obstetrics, surgical, and rehabilitation services.

Schedule:This per diem, nonexempt position will work on an as needed basis. There are no regularly scheduled hours. Weekend availability is a plus.

Rehab Department Hours: Operating hours for the hospital are Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm, and Saturday, 8:00am-4:00pm. Outpatient hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00am-6:00pm. Software systems utilized include Agile (Outpatient), NetHealth (SNF), and CPSI (Inpatient).

Required Qualifications: 

  • A graduate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
  • Current Michigan Occupational Therapist license in good standing  

Preferred Qualification:

  • Recent inpatient acute and outpatient treatment experience 

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $35.00 to $63.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
