About the role:
The Movement Specialist serves as a key partner in promoting workplace health, wellbeing, and injury prevention by helping clients reduce musculoskeletal risk across their employee populations. Working collaboratively with client stakeholders, vendor partners, and UnitedHealth Group and Optum resources, this role supports the development, implementation, and ongoing management of comprehensive ergonomic and movement-focused programs.
Responsibilities include program strategy, implementation, communications, marketing, vendor integration, budget management, outcome measurement, and reporting. The Movement Specialist provides expert ergonomic services within their scope of practice, which may include ergonomic assessments, workplace modifications, equipment evaluations, furniture and posture assessments, functional movement screenings, and stretching and mobility recommendations.
As a visible ambassador for the ergonomic program, this individual builds strong relationships with clients and participants, promotes engagement in health and wellbeing initiatives, and helps drive a culture of movement, injury prevention, and workplace performance.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Implements and follows all Workplace Well-being policies and procedures as outlined in the Team Member Manual
- Utilizes the P.R.I.D.E. syllabus for all customer service interaction
- Responds to client suggestions, concerns and complaints in a timely, professional and consistent manner
- Builds solid relationships and promotes integration of ergonomics with other departments (technology, facilities, purchasing, wellness providers, safety, benefits, health clinics)
- Serve as a subject matter expert
- In collaboration with the client, develops an annual calendar of events and programming which will appeal to and engage employees based on client's goals and objectives to address musculoskeletal health
- Interacts with the client's Medical Leave of Absence team (benefits or human capital) for medical cases that may require modifications to the work environment. These may be short term medical conditions, chronic disease or long term disabilities, such as physical, vision or hearing impairment(s)
- Attends all management meetings relating to safety and ergonomic goals and objectives
- Conducts ergonomic evaluations and movement assessments and perform functional tasks using tools such as checklists and surveys, which may include traveling to office desk locations, to consistently address the unique needs of each participant
- Determines any aspects within client's work environments that affect job performance or safety and recommend solutions to provide increased comfort, decreased physical strains and risk of hazards while on the job
- Evaluates potential solutions related to changes in equipment design, procedures, manpower, personnel, or training
- Demonstrates appropriate equipment adjustments for client employees which may include adjustment of chairs, computer monitors and keyboard trays, standing, using a tape measure, and bending to collect accurate tape measure readings
- Provides recommendations for corrective therapy, fascial work, trigger-point release and exercise prescription, as applicable
- Delivers proprietary movement classes designed by the physical activity department
- Design and deliver individual and group movement sessions that improve strength, flexibility, balance, and overall functional wellness while adapting instruction to meet varying fitness levels
- Promotes program participation via signage, email, portal, desk drops, informational tables, one-on-one invitations and other client approved avenues. This marketing support may be in collaboration with Workplace Well-being Marketing and Engagement colleagues. In addition, this may mean physically printing and distributing material and traveling to other local offices and facility locations
- Presents on topics specific to ergonomics and functional movement, and conducts postural and movement evaluations
- Provides reports on ergonomic program utilization, outcomes, success stories, and other metrics deemed appropriate by the client
- Maintains thorough knowledge of all site offerings such as Personal Training, Spa, Ergonomics, Group Fitness, Wellness, Nutrition, Clinics, etc. and refers members to other Workplace Well-being services and programs, products and ancillary services and/or client's external vendor partners as needed
- Works directly with the fitness team, when applicable, as a part of a comprehensive wellness solution for the participants
- Proactively looks for opportunities with the client to advise on additional Workplace Well-being products and services and relays opportunities to direct manager/RVP/VP/WD/AE
- Networks and maintains relationships with Workplace Well-being counterparts to stay current with best practices and shares knowledge by participating in Workplace Well-being national and /or regional committees
- Assumes primary responsibilities for full cycle Human Capital, inclusive of hiring, onboarding, coaching, motivating, scheduling, training, developing, evaluating, terminating, and assigning projects and workload to staff
- Manages the Workplace Well-being financial and business duties (payroll, invoicing, accounts payable and receivable, etc.) in a timely and accurate manner. This includes providing timely and accurate information to appropriate client departments
- Activates emergency action plans as necessary
- Completes all assigned education coursework and trainings on IDEA Club Connect and HMI
- Performs all other projects and responsibilities as required

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Ergonomics, Human Factors, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Human Kinetics, Kinesiology, or a related discipline
- Active state licensure in Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Chiropractic Care, or a related discipline
- Certified Ergonomist, Certified Ergonomic Assessment Specialist, Certification in Professional Ergonomics, or equivalent ergonomic certification, or proven experience delivering ergonomic assessments with the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire
- Demonstrated proficiency utilizing ergonomic assessment equipment and tools
- Proven experience working within corporate, manufacturing, or similar environments
- Proven experience managing budgets, metrics, and reporting activities
- Demonstrated solid organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and apply creative approaches to business development and marketing initiatives
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as web-based platforms
- Demonstrated knowledge of industry practices and proven ability to build relationships, engage with clients, and deliver a positive participant experience
- Demonstrated solid verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally, present information effectively, and engage groups in a public speaking environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Ergonomics, Health Sciences, or a related discipline
- Nationally accredited certification in Exercise Science, Personal Training, or a related discipline
- Proven solid experience performing ergonomic assessments
- Proven experience supporting health promotion initiatives
- Demonstrated knowledge of corporate benefits programs
