The Mohs Surgery Technician is secondary support, at minimum 50% in the Mohs Lab- preparing patient tissue samples to provide high-quality tissue slides to the Mohs Surgeon for microscopic examination, enabling accurate and timely diagnosis. In addition, Mohs Surgery Assistant/CMA may also administer injectables, set-up/assist with procedures, sterile field, and/or cosmetic procedures, removal of sutures, sterilize instruments, and manage pathology log to make sure all results received and given to patients/treatments done.
Primary Responsibilities:
- 50% Performing all duties in the Mohs lab, independently embedding, cutting, staining, freezing and mounting
- Prepare slides for examination by the Mohs Surgeon
- Properly identify and catalog patient specimens
- Prep tissues acquired during the surgical procedure for frozen sectioning
- Freeze tissues to the condition suitable for embedding & cutting
- Properly adjust and operate a cryostat to cut tissue sections for slides
- Mount tissues to properly affix to glass slides or Stain slides, as per specifically designed protocol
- File and catalog slides and specimen documentation
- Perform daily maintenance of stains and instruments
- Document equipment daily maintenance and performance
- Perform daily quality control
- Comply with Kelsey-Seybold standards to meet or exceed CLIA & OSHA laboratory regulations
- Mohs Surgery Lab Technician will maintain the same hours as the Mohs Surgeon
- 11% Patient Care Mohs Surgery Assistant Demonstrates knowledge and skill needed to provide safe and effective care to facilitate the Mohs Surgical Department provider's practices which includes:
- Injection of Lidocaine for local anesthesia in superficial areas
- Surgical site scrub
- Vital signs
- Preparation and procedural set up for dry dressings
- Sterile fields set up for MOHS procedure * Suture removal up to 10 cm
- Documentation of all medications and procedures
- Knows how to access the designated resource MD or RN
- Seeks clarification or guidance with questions related to medication administration from licensed staff Transport patient within facility as needed
- Perform CPR as needed and assist during times of emergency

- 11% MOHS Patient/ Surgical and Cosmetic Care
- Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon
- Assists Mohs surgeon throughout procedure with instruments and providing hands on assistance according to prescribed standards
- Dresses and provides wound care instruction for the surgery site
- Assists with Cosmetic procedures, such as Botox, Chemical Peels, etc.
- Able to assist with Laser skin procedures
- Compiles and prepares surgical packs
- Runs autoclave as needed. Documents observations related to health status and reports findings
- During Surgical procedure, takes photos of surgical stages for Epic System- Haiku Application
- 4 % Scribe
- The Scribe works to facilitate patient flow through ambulatory clinics and ensures an accurate and complete medical record for each patient
- In accordance with policy, prepares and assembles medical record documentation/chart for physician prior to and during patient visit. Ensures all documentation is accurate and timely
- The Scribe assists the medical provider by accompanying them during the surgical procedure

ClericalReviews doctor's schedule, abstract as needed; prints PVS for each patient and requests other relevant information needed for patient's visit that day
- Prepares and submits patient documents for scanning
- Monitors assigned in-basket and completes work as needed - Overdue Results/Letters
- Schedules appointments and assists patients with specialty referrals and radiology testing
- Provides pre-printed patient educational material as directed by provider
- Ensures proper disposal of confidential patient information -daily
- Follows HIPAA policy and procedures regarding patient confidentiality
- 4% Department Maintenance
- Monitors supplies, medications and forms and notifies appropriate staff when reorder needed
- Removes and tags broken equipment and notifies coordinator, supervisor, or manager
- Cleans exam rooms daily and documents on log
- Monitors supplies for expiration date and restock to par levels
- Performs sterilization of instruments and completes logs (assignment based on completion of sterilization class and delegation by appropriate nursing staff)
- Attends staff meetings
- Maintain a clean and organized work area with a minimum of personal items
- 4% QA-Regulatory
- Completes daily logs as assigned by nursing staff
- Waived testing (i.e., glucometer, urine dipstick and urine pregnancy logs) CLIA standards
- Refrigerator and room temperature logs
- Eye wash station
- Other QA logs
- Performs accurate, legal, & ethical documentation
- Maintains patient confidentiality
- Practices OSHA safety standards with proper disposal of biohazard waste
- Uses frequent hand washing or hand sanitizer (up to ten times before have to wash hands with soap and water unless hands visibly soiled) to prevent and control the spread of disease within the clinical setting
- Uses gloves and PPE as needed
- Uses aseptic or sterile technique as needed
- Verifies that equipment has a current PM label before use
- Identifies and reports potential barriers for the safe provision of patient care and maintains a safe patient environment
- 4% Customer Service
- Works with patients to achieve excellent customer service and high levels of satisfaction
- Practices mutual respect among all members of the healthcare team

- Answers and directs incoming calls to appropriate staff using a caring non-rushed tone
- Identifies clinic, department, name, and job title in health care team

- Reports and provides documentation of all complaints to coordinator, supervisor, manager, or Clinic Administrator
- Utilizes warm transfer process when redirecting patients to ensure needs are met

- Demonstrates prudent use of resources. Minimizes wasteful actions
- Assists with maintaining equipment according to manufacturer's recommendation
- Reports to coordinator, supervisor, manager, or clinic administrator the need for over-time and obtains approval
- 4% Quality Improvement
- Contributes and participates in the department and clinic process improvement plans. (PDSA)
- Supports initiatives related to meeting AAAHC and other accrediting standards
- Follows all safety standards for patients, employees, and visitors
- Recognizes and adheres to National Patient Safety Goals

Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED from an accredited program and Gradate from an accredited Medical Assistant program or school
- Certified or Registered as a Medical Assistant, or Surgical Technician
- BLS Certification through American Heart Association
- Complete the department specific program modules for medical assistants
- 1+ years of related experience as a Medical Assistant, including experience embedding, cutting, staining, mounting and freezing tissue OR 1+ years of related surgical assistant experience
- Proven ability to use equipment and related supplies for selected patient population
- Proven windows-based computer skills.

- EPIC experience
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $17.98 to $32.12 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
