Upon the order of a qualified practitioner or provider, the Medical Imaging Supervisor will utilize equipment that produces ionizing radiation and/or other energies used in medical imaging to obtain studies for diagnostic purposes according to policies, procedures, and protocols of the KSC Medical Imaging Department and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. The Medical Imaging Supervisor will utilize the designated Radiology Information System (RIS), Patient Archiving and Communication System (PACS) as well as computerized time keeping and ordering systems. The Medical Imaging Supervisor is directly responsible for regulatory compliance, inspection, accreditation, and maintenance concerns. Duties include the supervision of technical and/or clerical staff members; staff may be in multiple locations and/or multiple modalities.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Performs diagnostic medical imaging studies in keeping with credentials and according to policies, procedures and protocols of the KSC radiology department
  • Understands and applies technical principles affecting optimal production of images, as well as anatomical orientations and anomalies affecting proper imaging techniques
  • Understands age related communication needs of patients and is able to effectively convey instructions to patients to facilitate the performance of studies
  • Adheres to professional and accreditation standards, federal and state regulations, and AAAHC requirements
  • Maintain confidentiality of medical information as required by the Health Insurance & Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Prepares department for Environmental Health and Safety Inspections
  • Adheres to all radiology standards of operation and policies
  • Maintains current applicable licenses and/or certifications and complies with continuing education requirements. Verifies clinical staff members are in compliance with license and/or certification bodies and  participate in to maintain credentials
  • Conscious of radiation and other energy safety measures and demonstrates competency. Monitors utilization of radiation and other energy safety measures and devices by subordinates
  • Accomplishes human resource objectives by selecting, orienting, training, mentoring, assigning, scheduling, coaching, and providing corrective action for employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; and adhering to policies and procedures
  • Has the authority to implement performance improvement plans if needed
  • Working with Human Resources and the Radiology Manager, the Supervisor will make recommendations regarding resolution in all performance related issues up to and including terminations
  • Plans, schedules, and assigns work for department, ensuring coverage of all hours of operations and monitors productivity
  • Responsible for meeting efficiency and productivity standards
  • Responsible for assuring studies are completed and read in keeping with departmental standards
  • Oversees Technical Quality Control measures and is responsible for the quality of studies produced in areas of responsibility
  • Trouble shoots complex imaging issues, provides technical assistance, coordinates equipment service and is responsible for resolution
  • Works closely with Radiologists, Management, and Quality Specialists to assess issues and institutes corrective action plan for staff and/or equipment issues that affect optimal performance
  • Uses RIS and PACS system correctly, according to Clinic and Department guidelines
  • Responsible for correct use of RIS and PACS by subordinates
  • Corrects errors and is responsible for maintaining integrity of data sent to PACS by staff
  • Orders supplies and maintains necessary par levels to meet normal operations, receives orders, verifies content and follows through with accounting department by providing required documentation for payment and assists with account resolution should discrepancies arise
  • Uses Kronos for timekeeping responsibilities
  • Utilizes sterile technique when necessary and oversees subordinates in the use of proper techniques
  • Verifies that subordinates maintain documentation of cleaning logs as applicable and that they comply with KSC safety initiatives
  • Participates in operational and capital budget planning. Monitors departmental expenditures, identifies variances, and makes recommendations for corrective actions
  • Assists in the evaluation of new equipment and consumables. Looks for opportunities for cost savings. Works closely with department manager to monitor costs to ensure departments of responsibility are within budget. 
  • Maintains patient service standards, provides supportive care to patients by mediating and resolving any issues that arise, and identifies improvement opportunities
  • Interacts effectively with patients and coworkers, including staff assigned to other locations
  • Is responsible for distribution of departmental policy changes and structure changes to staff
  • Participates in and is a training resource for formal and in-service training programs of KelseySeybold Clinic, department specific in services, and any applicable site-specific training
  • Communicates readily and well with Manager and Radiologists in giving and receiving feedback
  • Keeps radiology management and clinic administrator apprised of issues as applicable
  • Must have the ability to understand and respond to questions by giving factual information
  • Capable of dealing effectively with other clinic departments, physicians, and staff
  • Uses the Mission and Values as a guideline for all communications, verbal, written, or electronic
  • May be assigned to other duties, technical or non-technical if training, experience, and credentials are deemed adequate by the manager to perform those duties and makes staff assignments based on the same criteria

Required Qualifications: 

  • Associates Degree in Applied Science or Graduate of an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Radiologic Technology, and/or MRI
  • Required licenses and certifications dependent on the modality/specialty of the incumbent
  • BCLS certification 
  • 3+ years technical experience to include regulatory and quality control responsibilities. PACS and RIS experience
  • Ability to use computer and Microsoft Office to generate department reports and presentations, PRN. Ability to grasp elements of image acquisition and workflows in multiple modalities
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, Documented evidence of leadership abilities

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's in healthcare sciences, business, or human resources
  • ARRT (R) MRT- General Certificate 
  • Certification in additional imaging modalities

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $72,800 to $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
