We are currently seeking a candidate to fill an exciting role within Optum Learning Solutions. The Instructional Designer will build scalable learning experiences that develop teams across Optum Global Advantage. The ideal candidate will be creative and tech savvy with experience working across multiple instructional delivery modalities with advanced level digital design skills. The Instructional Designer will create and continuously improve learning experiences using an array of approaches that engage learners and drive high-impact learning.
This role will provide learning support to internal customers through the design and development of both instructor-led and self-paced learning solutions for both new and existing employees. The role will produce high quality, skill-based learning content across a variety of different modalities - including facilitator guides, interactive self-paced modules, scenario-based role play activities and assessments, to name a few. The role will work across the full spectrum of learning support - new content development, management of existing content, as well as scheduled and ad-hoc communications - with the goal of increasing the performance of our internal customers. Additionally, the role will consult and collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) as well as peers across the organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Seamlessly align to the strategic objectives of business and internal customers
- Engage/collaborate with appropriate stakeholders and SMEs needed to identify business needs, performance goals and gaps and conduct content analysis
- Propose or suggest design solutions based on the identified business needs
- Apply principles of adult learning and training best practices to create effective and innovative training design solutions
- Develop appropriate learning activities based on training designs and learning objectives
- Write scripts/talking points for learning activities (e.g., trainer, audio, video, case studies)
- Write supporting materials for learning activities (e.g., agendas, schedules, quick reference guides, handouts, job aids, trainer/learner guides, audio/visual aids)
- Leverage/modify existing training solutions to meet current needs (e.g., updates, revisions, re-purposing for new audiences)
- Utilize various platforms/tools (ex: Articulate 360) to develop skills-based learning content
- Design and develop effective instructor-led and self-paced learning content
- Collaborate with peers across Optum Learn to evaluate and improve learning content
- Partner with peers to develop full scale learning solutions for both new and existing employees
- Effectively take direction and apply feedback from senior team members while juggling multiple priorities
- Accurately track task progress within project workplans in a timely manner
- Communicate effectively with customers, peers and domestic partners
- Engage/collaborate with appropriate stakeholders and SMEs to determine appropriate training content (e.g., products, processes, tools, skills needed)
- Conduct train-the-trainer sessions to prepare trainers for delivery of training solutions and ensure/validate trainer readiness
- Obtain stakeholder and SME approval/sign-off of training pilot outcomes and next steps
- Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). Required Qualifications:
- Technical Skills
- 4+ years of experience using Microsoft Office suite of applications/tools
- 3+ years of experience designing/developing learning content in a corporate environment creating instructor-led and self-paced learning content
- 3+ years of experience using Articulate 360 suite (storyline is required) of applications/tools
- Process Specific Skills
- Proven ability to utilize high quality visual design principles
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, think critically and solve problems
- Proven ability to efficiently manage time and balance multiple deliverables/priorities
- Proven ability to efficiently manage time and balance multiple deliverables/priorities
- Proven ability to effectively balance creative design techniques with a high attention to detail
- Highly motivated individual
- Creative bent of mind with out of the box thinking
- Ability to speak and write proficiently in the English language
- Willing to work on a hybrid set-up (6x on-site per month)
- Willing to be assigned on a night shift supporting domestic business operations
