Our ideal candidate will combine pharmacy experience, experience with pharmacological terms, and an understanding of the management of healthcare data and data quality. This work requires experience with medication terminologies, use of metadata, knowledge representation and other basics of medical informatics.


The work also requires skills and knowledge required understanding and safely working with clinical terminology and the systems in and with which it is used.  


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical and analytic support to projects within Clinical Informatics team
  • Perform target to source mapping of coded and un-coded data from customer's clinical (EMR's) and financial (claims) data to proprietary medication terminology system 
  • Operate Optum's advanced terminology development tools 
  • Participate in the implementation and use of clinical data quality systems and processes 
  • Support product release work and scheduled updates including resolving mapping issues 
  • Work closely with other clinical informatics specialists in knowledge representation areas 
  • Develop and contribute to medication terminology related editorial policies/ mapping heuristics 
  • Perform investigation of medication data issues, identify root cause and trouble shoot
  • Be able to work creatively and flexibly, both independently and as part of a team 
  • Desire and ability to learn new skills, systems, and processes

Required Qualifications:

  • Pharmacy Technician with 2+ years of experience or Bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical science degree with work experience as pharmacy intern
  • 1+ years of recent working experience as pharmacy technician or as a pharmacy intern in a hospital setting
  • Experience with medication terminology
  • Experience in mapping of medication data from source to target system 
  • Competence with PCs and Windows Office applications
  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze and summarize medication data issues 
  • Demonstrated desire and ability to learn new skills, systems and processes
  • Good written and oral communication skills


Preferred Qualifications:

  • PTCB Certified or eligible for certification
  • Experience in healthcare information systems development
  • Experience with pharmacy order entry system implementation
  • Experience with med formulary or med dictionary management
  • Experience working directly with software development professionals
  • Experience with mixing IV products in a hospital setting
  • Experience with industry standard medication terminology
  • Basic experience with relational databases, such as MS access/Oracle/AWS/Azure
  • Basic experience coding in Scala/Spark/SQL/Access or another data analysis language
  • Basic experience with pharmacy data analysis
  • Working knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations
