Optum's User Experience Team is looking for an energetic and creative Senior UX Engineer (Product Designer and/or Researcher) who is passionate about the design of great health care experiences. In this role, you will be responsible for uncovering user insights that inform product design and strategy. You will collaborate with other senior designers, researchers, developers and product managers to create best-in-class, interoperable and modern SaaS solutions using human-centered methodologies.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create functional prototypes, static mockups as well as textual specifications - each describing in as much detail and fidelity as possible the intended user-observable behavior of the final product
- Create research reports, personas, journey maps, and other deliverables to communicate findings
- Leads, aligns and conducts research/design activities across products, ensuring research/design integrity and commitments are upheld across projects
- Conduct user research and usability testing to gather insights and inform design decisions
- Collaborate with stakeholders including UX Leads, Product Managers and Development Managers to identify, plan, prioritize and implement project design and/or research activities
- Perform design duties for one or more projects to meet UX, technical, and business needs
- Advocate for user-centered design including research and accessibility
- Leverage and contribute to existing design pattern libraries and interface guidelines
- Critique in-progress design work, evaluating the priority and effectivity of solutions
- Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do so
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of UX design experience, including creating wireframes and prototypes to communicate design concepts
- 10+ years of demonstrated understanding of mature user-centered design and research practices with a deep background and bias towards simplicity, elegance, and minimalism
- 10+ years of experience participating in user research and concept testing with real users
- Deep understanding of methodology, study design, and analysis/reporting, including ethnographic research, site visits, interviews, voice of the customer, think-out-loud studies, and task-based usability testing
- Deep understanding of general design and research best practices including conducting empathy interviews, heuristic evaluations, usability and discovery research
- Portfolio of relevant user experience project deliverables
- Proven ability to analyze research for thematic needs, pain points, and preferences, and synthesize such qualitative and quantitative information for clear storytelling and actionable recommendations for key stakeholders
- Proven excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex concepts clearly and persuasively across diverse audiences at various levels of our organization including executive leadership
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Information Architecture, Communications, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- Experience with enterprise software, B2B applications or large employee-facing systems in the medical, healthcare or financial domains
- Knowledge of UX- related analytics, metrics, and measurement techniques
- Involvement in the UX community (e.g. associations, meet-ups, clubs, conferences)
- Proven ability managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Proven collaborative, low-ego approach to working with others
