The Associate Director of Corrective and Preventative Action Management (CAPAM) leads the strategy, governance, and execution of corrective and preventative action (CAPA) processes for projects spanning across Optum Rx. This role is accountable for ensuring systemic issues are prevented through scalable, sustainable solutions.

The Associate Director provides organizational leadership over the CAPAM function, including direct management of the CAPAM team and oversight of high-risk, high-complexity CAPA initiatives. This role partners with senior stakeholders across business, compliance, audit, and operations to influence strategy, mitigate risk, and drive continuous improvement.

This leader balances operational execution with strategic transformation, ensuring CAPA processes, tools, and governance models are optimized for effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and business impact.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and govern the enterprise CAPA framework, ensuring standardization, scalability, and alignment with audit and compliance expectations

Team & Organizational Leadership:

  • Lead, develop, and scale the CAPAM team, including setting vision, structure, and talent strategy
  • Establish clear roles, performance expectations, and succession planning
  • Drive a high-performance culture focused on accountability and continuous improvement

Enterprise Governance & Strategy:

  • Define and implement CAPA governance, policies, and standards across business units
  • Serve as the central escalation point for high-risk CAPA issues
  • Partner with senior leadership to align CAPA priorities with enterprise risk initiatives
  • Influence cross-functional leaders to adopt standardized CAPA practices

Complex CAPA Ownership:

  • Lead high-priority, high-complexity CAPA initiatives involving regulatory, financial, and operational risk
  • Provide expert guidance on root cause analysis and solution design

Analytics & Continuous Improvement:

  • Establish advanced metrics, dashboards, and predictive insights
  • Drive trend analysis to identify systemic risks
  • Champion automation and tooling enhancements
  • Establish and enforce data governance standards for CAPA reporting and analytics, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data across systems; implement controls, validation processes, and audit mechanisms to support reliable insights and informed decision-making

Executive Communication:

  • Deliver executive-level reporting and presentations
  • Translate complex findings into clear business insights

Cross-Functional Influence:

  • Partner with Compliance, Legal, Audit, and Operations to resolve systemic issues
  • Influence decision-making across matrixed environments

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in audit, compliance, CAPA, or process improvement
  • 5+ years demonstrated leadership experience
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide or complex initiatives
  • Advanced expertise in root cause analysis and governance frameworks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lean Six Sigma Green and/or Black Belt
  • Prior direct people management experience
  • Optum Rx systems experience (RxClaim)
  • Experience leading enterprise CAPA or quality programs
  • Experience in regulatory environments
  • Experience in Government Programs; Medicare and CMS-related initiatives
  • Solid executive presence and influencing skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
