The Associate Director, Revenue Cycle Management is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational oversight, and continuous improvement of revenue cycle functions supporting healthcare, government, and commercial clients. This role provides leadership to managers, supervisors, analysts, coding professionals, and billing teams responsible for medical coding, invoice creation and submission, collections, client account management, reporting, and revenue optimization.


This position owns end-to-end revenue cycle processes and is accountable for driving operational performance, invoice quality, regulatory compliance, client satisfaction, process standardization, and financial outcomes. The Associate Director, Revenue Cycle Management serves as a key business partner to Operations, Finance, Technology, Compliance, and Client Leadership teams to ensure efficient revenue realization and sustainable growth.


You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Strategic Leadership & Revenue Cycle Operations
    • Provide leadership and direction for revenue cycle operations including medical coding, charge capture, invoicing, collections, payment reconciliation, and accounts receivable performance
    • Develop and execute operational strategies that improve revenue realization, reduce aging receivables, and enhance overall financial performance
    • Lead managers, supervisors, and professional staff responsible for revenue cycle activities across multiple programs, clients, or lines of business
    • Establish operational goals, performance metrics, and accountability standards aligned with organizational and client objectives
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to CEO and executive leadership team regarding revenue cycle performance, risks, opportunities, and strategic initiatives
  • Invoicing & Revenue Management
    • Direct the preparation, validation, and submission of accurate and timely client invoices
    • Ensure contract terms, pricing methodologies, and billing requirements are appropriately applied
    • Monitor invoice production cycles and proactively address delays, discrepancies, or barriers impacting revenue realization
    • Oversee payment reconciliation activities and ensure alignment between invoicing, accounts receivable, and contractual requirements
    • Lead efforts to improve invoice accuracy, reduce rework, and increase billing efficiency
  • Medical Coding Oversight
    • Oversee medical coding operations to ensure accuracy, quality, compliance, and adherence to applicable coding standards and regulations
    • Partner with coding leadership to identify trends, audit findings, productivity concerns, and educational opportunities
    • Ensure coding processes support timely and accurate billing and reimbursement activities
    • Collaborate with Quality, Compliance, and Operations teams to mitigate coding risks and improve documentation integrity
  • Reporting, Analytics & Business Intelligence
    • Establish and maintain reporting frameworks, dashboards, and scorecards that measure revenue cycle performance
    • Oversee development of reports and executive dashboards tracking invoice status, aging, collections, coding quality, invoice quality, and operational performance
    • Analyze trends, identify root causes, and develop actionable recommendations to improve performance
    • Present operational and financial results to senior leaders, clients, and key stakeholders
    • Leverage analytics to support forecasting, capacity planning, and strategic decision-making
  • Client Relationship & Collections Management
    • Serve as executive point of contact for escalated billing and payment issues
    • Partner directly with client organizations to resolve invoice questions, payment delays, disputes, and collection challenges
    • Lead collection strategies to improve cash flow and reduce outstanding balances
    • Coordinate payment plans, reconciliations, and resolution activities with internal and external stakeholders
    • Foster strong client relationships through proactive communication and service excellence
  • Business Process Improvement
    • Lead enterprise and departmental process improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, accuracy, customer experience, and financial outcomes
    • Conduct root cause analysis to identify invoicing errors, workflow inefficiencies, and operational risks
    • Develop and implement corrective and preventive action plans
    • Standardize workflows, policies, procedures, and controls across revenue cycle operations
    • Champion Lean, Six Sigma, automation, and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Technology & Innovation
    • Evaluate existing revenue cycle technology platforms and identify opportunities for optimization
    • Recommend new technologies, automation solutions, workflow tools, and reporting capabilities to improve operational performance
    • Partner with Technology and Product teams to define business requirements, prioritize enhancements, and support system implementations
    • Lead user acceptance testing and operational readiness activities for revenue cycle initiatives
    • Drive adoption of data-driven and technology-enabled solutions across the organization
  • Compliance & Governance
    • Ensure revenue cycle activities comply with contractual obligations, coding requirements, billing regulations, and organizational policies
    • Support internal and external audits and implement remediation strategies as needed
    • Establish controls and monitoring processes that ensure ongoing operational integrity and financial accuracy
    • Coordinate cross-functional responses to audit requests and ensure timely delivery of supporting documentation, corrective action plans, and remediation activities
    • Analyze audit outcomes and identify recurring themes, operational risks, and opportunities for process improvement and automation
    • Communicate risks and mitigation plans to leadership and stakeholders
  • Talent Development & Leadership
    • Build, develop, and retain a high-performing revenue cycle organization
    • Mentor managers, supervisors, analysts, and operational leaders
    • Establish performance expectations and development plans that support employee growth
    • Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
    • Lead cross-functional teams and initiatives in a highly matrixed environment

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in healthcare revenue cycle, medical billing, coding, finance, accounts receivable, or related operational functions
  • 4+ years of leadership experience managing managers, supervisors, or professional staff
  • Experience overseeing invoicing, collections, accounts receivable management, and revenue reporting
  • Experience developing operational metrics, executive reporting, dashboards, and performance scorecards
  • Experience leading process improvement initiatives and implementing operational changes
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and drive results in a matrixed organization
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Power BI, reporting tools, and financial analysis


Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPC, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CHFP, Lean Six Sigma, PMP, or related certification
  • Experience supporting government contracts and healthcare services organizations
  • Experience with medical coding operations and coding quality programs
  • Experience implementing revenue cycle technologies, workflow automation, and business intelligence solutions
  • Experience presenting financial and operational performance to executive leadership and clients
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale operational transformation initiatives

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
