We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Intern to join the Optum Serve Accounting team. This role will work primarily in the Record to Report workstream and offers hands-on experience supporting the month end financial close process, lease accounting, fixed assets, and reporting activities. The intern will work closely with high level accountants and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial tracking and compliance with company policies. This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to gain practical experience in month end close processes, financial reporting, and account reconciliations.

This is a year round internship located in La Crosse, WI starting as soon as possible. 

You will be required to work in office with flexibility around a school schedule.

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Perform monthly bank account reconciliations for various bank accounts
• Assist with fixed asset and leasing processes
• Support month-end close activities, including basic reconciliations and data validation
• Assist with audit support and internal controls administration
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Accounts Payable, Project Accounting) to gather information and resolve discrepancies
• Help track and reconcile various data points as needed
• Participate in identifying and documenting process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
• Assist in building and maintaining process flows, job aids and process documentation

Required Qualifications: 

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Proven solid attention to detail and organizational skills
• Demonstrated basic understanding of accounting principles
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, data organization)
• Proven solid communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience with accounting software/ERP systems (Peoplesoft, Costpoint, etc.)
• Exposure to basic accounting concepts
• Demonstrated familiarity with data analysis or reporting tools

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $18.00 to $32.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
