As a Trust Fund Accountant, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records, financial reporting, and administration of multiemployer fringe benefit funds, including health and welfare, pension, annuity, apprenticeship, and other employee benefit plans. In this role, you will ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, trust agreements, regulatory requirements, and internal control procedures. You will also collaborate with fund trustees, auditors, plan administrators, and contributing employers to support the effective management and financial integrity of the benefit plans.
This is a full-time on-site position, (40 hours / week), Monday - Friday. Employees must be available to work an 8-hour shift during regular business hours, which are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime. The office is located at 230 Lexington Green Circle, STE400 Lexington, KY 40503.
We offer weeks of on-the-job training. The hours of the training will be based on schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Accounting and Financial Reporting
- Maintain the general ledger and accounting records for multiple fringe benefit funds
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules
- Record and reconcile contributions, benefit payments, investment activity, and administrative expenses
- Perform bank reconciliations and account analyses
- Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate accounting documentation
- Assist in the preparation of annual audited financial statements
Fund Administration Support
- Monitor employer contribution receipts and ensure proper allocation to fund accounts
- Reconcile employer contribution reports to deposited funds
- Research and resolve discrepancies related to contributions, benefit payments, and participant accounts
- Coordinate with third-party administrators, custodians, and investment managers regarding financial transactions
Compliance and Audit Support
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, Department of Labor (DOL), IRS regulations, and applicable accounting standards
- Assist with preparation of Form 5500 filings and supporting schedules
- Support annual financial audits and respond to auditor requests
- Maintain documentation for internal and external compliance reviews
Cash Management and Investments
- Monitor fund cash balances and liquidity requirements
- Record and reconcile investment transactions and earnings
- Assist in tracking investment performance and preparing related reports for trustees
Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare financial reports and analyses for trustees, fund administrators, and management
- Analyze variances and account activity and recommend corrective actions when necessary
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes for fund operations and administrative expenses

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, OR related field
- 1+ years of accounting experience in employee benefit plan, fund, trust, nonprofit, public, OR financial reporting accounting environments
- Understanding of accounting principles and experience preparing accurate and timely financial reports
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, VLOOKUP, sorting & filtering, pivot tables) and accounting software
- Experience supporting audits with minimal adjustments
- Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close processes
- Experience researching and resolving accounting discrepancies
- Flexibility to work additional hours during audit periods, year-end close, and regulatory filing deadlines
- Must reside within a commutable distance to the office located at 230 Lexington Green Circle, STE400 Lexington, KY 40503
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time (domestic)

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with employee benefit plans, multiemployer fringe benefit funds, union benefit funds, OR trust fund accounting
- Experience with ERISA-regulated plans
- Knowledge of ERISA, Form 5500 reporting, employee benefit plan accounting, and related regulatory reporting requirements

- Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple deadlines

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $49,700 - $88,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
