The Rebate Management Pharmacist is responsible for supporting the execution, optimization, and expansion of Optum Health's national medical benefit rebate portfolio while contributing to broader pharmacy value and affordability initiatives across medical and pharmacy benefits.

This role partners closely with internal stakeholders across Finance, Health Care Economics (HCE), Legal, Actuarial, Clinical, Supply Chain, and Operations teams, as well as external pharmaceutical partners, to ensure effective rebate operations, data driven decision making, and scalable, compliant processes. The Rebate Management Pharmacist serves as a subject matter expert on medical rebate offerings and net cost considerations, supports cross functional initiatives to drive pharmacy value, and leads through influence in a highly matrixed environment.

Given the dynamic nature of the healthcare and pharmaceutical landscape, this role requires a high degree of adaptability. Responsibilities may evolve based on changing business needs, regulatory requirements, strategic priorities, and organizational decisions. The Rebate Management Pharmacist is expected to be flexible and responsive, taking on additional or modified responsibilities as needed to support Optum Health's objectives. While this role does not currently have direct reports, there is potential for the role to evolve into a people leadership role as the portfolio and team scale.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Medical Rebate Portfolio Support & Execution
    • Support end to end operational execution of the Optum Health national medical rebate portfolio, including contracting activities, vendor attestations, claims submission preparation, reconciliation, audit support, and performance reporting
    • Serve as a subject matter expert on medical rebate offerings and net cost considerations to inform rebate strategy, pharmacy value initiatives, and affordability goals
    • Support onboarding of new markets and vendors into the medical benefit rebate portfolio, partnering with markets to standardize, optimize, and scale operational processes
    • Support rebate validation, dispute resolution, forecasting, and governance activities in partnership with finance, Health Care Economics (HCE), legal, and operations stakeholders
    • Serve as the initial point of contact for pharmaceutical company outreach to Optum Health, facilitating coordination and alignment across internal teams
  • Pharmacy Value Strategy & Initiative Support
    • Support the ideation, design, and execution of pharmacy value initiatives, programs, and decision support tools across medical and pharmacy benefits
    • Partner with clinical, actuarial, finance, supply chain, and HCE teams to identify opportunities for improved utilization, preferred product strategies, cost optimization, and value realization
    • Translate complex clinical, financial, and contractual information into actionable insights and recommendations for leadership and cross functional stakeholders
  • Cross Functional Leadership & Influence
    • Lead through influence across matrixed teams without direct authority, aligning stakeholders around shared goals, priorities, and timelines
    • Contribute to long term strategy development related to medical benefit drug management, rebate optimization, and pharmacy affordability initiatives
    • Prepare clear, concise executive level communications, updates, analyses, and recommendations to support leadership decision making

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Pharmacy (BS Pharm)
  • Current, unrestricted pharmacist license in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • Successful completion of a PGY1 pharmacy residency program and at least one year of pharmacy experience, or a minimum of three years of relevant pharmacy experience
  • 2+ years of experience in managed care, health plan, PBM, and/or GPO environments
  • 2+ years of experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams within a matrixed organization
  • 1+ years of experience working in a metric driven environment with demonstrated analytical rigor
  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge of specialty therapeutics, including infusions and injectables, with proficiency in literature evaluation and evidence based medicine
  • Familiarity with value based care models, including shared savings and risk arrangements
  • Intermediate or advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, COUNTIFS), Power BI, Outlook, and Teams
  • Demonstrated solid analytical and quantitative skills, including experience reconciling and analyzing medical and pharmacy claims to identify utilization trends and cost drivers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a PGY2 pharmacy residency program, fellowship, or equivalent experience
  • Active Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification (e.g., BCPS, BCACP, BCGP, BCOP)
  • Experience with rebate design and rebate management
  • Experience supporting contracting strategy and negotiation processes
  • Experience conducting and interpreting financial analyses and economic models using medical and pharmacy claims data, clinical data, benchmarks, and market intelligence
  • Experience supporting Medicare Advantage, Commercial, and/or Medicaid programs
  • Experience in specialty infusion care delivery, including home infusion operations
  • Solid working knowledge of Medicare Part A, B, C, and D benefits, regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated strength in program and project management, with a record of meeting or exceeding operational, quality, or cost management objectives

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 to $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
