The Ancillary Benefit Management (ABM) program is seeking a Senior Project Manager to support the delivery of current and future ABM solutions. This role is responsible for leading and coordinating complex projects across the ABM portfolio, with a primary focus on operational initiatives and the management of implementation and technical requirements.
The Senior Project Manager serves as a key driver of execution, leveraging established project management methodologies to ensure initiatives are delivered on time, within scope, and with clear visibility into risks, dependencies, and outcomes. This role partners closely with internal business, operations, technical teams, external payer clients, and vendors to support successful implementations and ongoing delivery.

For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage projects across the ABM portfolio using established project management methodologies, including scope definition, risk identification, contract adherence, and facilitation
- Serve as the primary point of contact for client facing implementations, ensuring clear communication and coordinated execution
- Develop, maintain, and influence strong relationships with key stakeholders, including operations leaders, product and technical directors, business partners, vendors, and payer clients
- Prepare and deliver project updates and presentations to clients and all levels of Optum leadership, including progress, risks, mitigation strategies, and expected outcomes
- Ensure project documentation is accurate, complete, and maintained throughout the project lifecycle
- Identify, track, and escalate risks and issues in a timely manner to appropriate stakeholders
- Partner closely with business and technical teams to support payer implementations and operational initiatives
- Anticipate payer client needs and proactively develop solutions to address them
- Forecast and plan project resource requirements in alignment with delivery timelines
- Manage vendor and service provider engagement, including defining scope, deliverables, and performance expectations
- Solve complex, ambiguous problems and develop innovative solutions to improve project outcomes and processes

Required Qualifications:
- PMP certification
- 4+ years of project management experience using data and insights to inform business decisions
- 4+ years of experience working with analytics tools, healthcare software platforms, or similar enterprise systems
- 3+ years of experience supporting payer customers as part of implementation initiatives
- 3+ years of experience leading healthcare projects involving eligibility, claims, and/or provider data
- 3+ years of experience managing or coordinating with external vendor partners
- 3+ years of experience working in a highly matrixed organization with multiple concurrent workstreams
- 3+ years of experience with new product implementation for emerging technology
- 3+ years of experience supporting innovation of new product implementation
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and SharePoint
Preferred Qualifications:

- Demonstrated solid communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences
- Demonstrated excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously while meeting delivery commitments
- Proven to be comfortable motivating and influencing cross-functional partners without direct authority
- Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment supporting evolving products and client needs

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
