The Ancillary Benefit Management (ABM) program is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to support the delivery and implementation of current and emerging ABM solutions. In this role, you will partner closely with Optum engineering teams, product, sales, account management, clients, and strategic vendor partners to successfully deliver technology-enabled ABM products across multiple clients.
This position requires a strong combination of technical program management expertise, understanding of the software development lifecycle, and the ability to operate comfortably in client-facing environments. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced, high-impact settings and can effectively coordinate across business, technical, and external stakeholders
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as a client-facing technical program manager for ABM implementations, coordinating delivery across Optum engineering teams, vendor partners, and client business and IT stakeholders
- Represent Optum in client-facing technical discussions, including implementation strategy, integration considerations, risks, and delivery timelines
- Lead and facilitate technical and cross-functional meetings; communicate clear status, risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans
- Partner with product, business, and technical stakeholders to define and refine implementation requirements
- Collaborate with program managers, engineers, and business teams to develop and manage implementation plans and timelines
- Monitor and manage multiple concurrent client implementations, ensuring cross-team alignment and issue resolution
- Incorporate technical and integration considerations into overall project design and execution
- Apply working knowledge of healthcare technologies, integrations, and data flows to proactively identify and resolve issues
- Provide clear explanations and recommendations related to technology solutions, integrations, and data for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Maintain professionalism and effectiveness in complex, fast-paced, and client-facing situations

Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of IT or technical program management experience
- 5+ years of experience supporting or delivering software-based solutions across the product development lifecycle
- 3+ years of direct external client or customer-facing experience
- 3+ years of experience supporting payer implementations or working directly with payer organizations
- 3+ years of experience delivering healthcare technology projects involving eligibility, claims, or provider data
- 3+ years of experience managing or coordinating with external vendor partners
- 3+ years of experience working in a highly matrixed environment with multiple parallel workstreams
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments using tools such as Jira, Rally, Aha, and Salesforce
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and SharePoint
Preferred Qualifications:
- Solid communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences
- Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously while meeting delivery commitments
- Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams
- Comfortable motivating and influencing cross-functional partners without direct authority
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment supporting evolving products and client needs

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
