UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual (UHC E&I) is seeking an Accounting & Reporting Accountant to join the segment's Controllership team. The Accounting & Reporting Accountant will be an integral part of the financial reporting team and will engage directly with the broader UHC E&I finance teams while supporting the financial close and internal (segment) reporting processes. A successful Accounting & Reporting Accountant will demonstrate ability to operate in fast paced environment, understand applicable accounting rules and regulations, and perform thoughtful financial and variance analysis. Candidate must demonstrate communication skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, while working collaboratively in active partnership with FP&A and other teams. This position will have direct exposure to UHC E&I leadership. This position is full time (40 hours / week), Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

We offer weeks of on-the-job training. The hours of the training will be based on schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited, to the following:
  • Participate in the financial close and reporting process including general ledger maintenance, daily tracking and analysis of segment results, and reporting to senior leaders on the UHC E&I financial results
  • Analyzes and prepares financial statements, including balance sheets, and associated key metrics
  • Prepares documentation in support of external and internal audits
  • Resolve financial reporting issues
  • Collaborate with other functional areas within E&I Finance / Controllership (e.g., Financial Planning & Analysis, Revenue, Medical Reserving, SG&A, UHC Corporate)
  • Develop and maintain internal control structure and procedures for financial reporting
  • Prepares and analyzes internal and external reporting ensuring the quality, reliability and timeliness of the reports
  • Support various special projects as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Accounting OR Finance
  • Working knowledge of GAAP; ability to effectively use accounting knowledge to collaborate with varying levels of employees and management to drive sound business decisions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel 
  • Ability to comprehend and apply generally accepted accounting principles, and research and analyze accounting related issues
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Ability to build and maintain solid working relationships across the organization
  • Ability to work any of our full time (40 hours / week), 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm from Monday - Friday

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Reside within commutable distance to the office at 9700 Health Care Lane, Minnetonka, MN
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from  $49,700 - $88,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
