We are seeking a Senior Mobile Architect to own the technical direction of our Expo / React Native member application, a production platform serving more than 1 million members daily across iOS, Android, and the web (via React Native Web). This role is the senior architectural authority for the mobile codebase: it sets and defends the technical standards, resolves the hardest production problems, and guides a distributed engineering team through both day-to-day delivery and major integration initiatives. The codebase is both a host for embedded, federated modules and the producer of a shared feature module consumed by other applications, so architectural decisions routinely span module and team boundaries.

The application is a mature, long-tenured codebase with significant accumulated complexity. Success in this role depends as much on the discipline to work effectively inside an existing system as on greenfield design skill. This is a hands-on architect position. The expectation is daily engagement with code, reviews, and engineers, not architecture by document.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Own architectural decisions across state management, navigation, API integration, caching and degraded-network behavior, cross-platform (iOS/Android/web) rendering, and native and micro-frontend module boundaries
  • Evaluate and document trade-offs for significant technical changes; establish patterns the broader team follows
  • Define and maintain the technical standards and quality bar for a platform operating at 1M+ user scale
  • Review pull requests and provide substantive architectural feedback, not surface-level approval
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex technical questions from onshore and offshore engineers
  • Mentor mid-level and junior developers; grow the team's capacity to make sound decisions independently
  • Lead diagnosis and resolution of complex production issues, including performance regressions, crash clusters, and platform-version incidents
  • Own release readiness for the mobile application: upgrade strategy, dependency currency, native build and release pipelines (Bitrise), app-store submission, and rollback posture
  • Provide senior technical coverage during U.S. Central-time afternoon hours, when offshore team members are offline
  • Lead the mobile architecture for major integration initiatives, including current strategic program work
  • Own the micro-frontend boundaries: evolve the shared feature module consumed by other host applications, and integrate third-party federated widgets across module lines (shared authentication/session, navigation bridges, and independent versioning)
  • Partner with backend, security, and product teams on API contracts (including consumer-driven contract testing), authentication flows, and data-handling requirements
  • Translate the behavior and constraints of the existing codebase for stakeholders who need to plan against it

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • 5+ years building and shipping production React Native applications
  • 5+ years experience as the senior technical authority on a mobile application at scale (hundreds of thousands of active users or more)
  • 3+ years architecture experience in the mobile space

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with AI/ML-enabled platforms, rules engines, and audit systems
  • Background in Payment Integrity / Claims processing
  • Track record of leading large-scale transformations / platform consolidation
