The Director of Actuarial Services plays a critical leadership role at the intersection of strategy, analytics, and financial stewardship for our Specialty Benefits business. This role serves as the day to day actuarial and trend management leader for dental and vision, partnering closely with senior stakeholders to shape business strategy, strengthen financial performance, and drive analytical excellence. Combining deep actuarial expertise with solid people leadership, the Director guides complex reserving, forecasting, and regulatory activities while building and inspiring a high performing team that delivers insight, innovation, and results in a dynamic, matrixed environment.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as the day to day Trend Management lead for Specialty Benefits, including dental and vision
- Act as a strategic advisor to business partners on business strategy, operational effectiveness, and actuarial and analytical best practices
- Provide strategic leadership and input into the development and execution of project roadmaps and timelines
- Lead and facilitate recurring cross functional meetings across a matrixed organization, including discussions related to:
- Month end IBNR reserves
- Other reserves (PDR, LDTI, and additional policy reserves)
- Quarterly trend analyses
- Financial forecasts and projections
- Support the preparation of Health Annual Statement (Orange Blank) actuarial certifications.
- Provide audit, regulatory, and compliance support as required
- Design, develop, and execute complex actuarial models and data programs using tools such as R, Python, Excel, SAS, and SQL
- Design and support ad hoc analytical initiatives in response to emerging business needs
- Lead, manage, and develop a team of Actuarial Consultants and Actuarial Analysts
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance management to develop and retain actuarial talent
- Foster a collaborative, high performance team environment that supports professional growth and encourages innovative thinking and problem solving
Leadership Impact
This role demands solid leadership and influence. You will lead a highly driven and analytically focused team while overseeing large, complex initiatives across multiple workstreams. Senior leaders will rely on you as a trusted actuarial subject matter expert, looking to you to provide insight, direction, and guidance that support accurate cost reporting and informed business decisions.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- SOA Actuarial credential of ASA or FSA
- 10+ years of healthcare actuarial experience
- 5+ years of experience presenting complex analytical findings to diverse audiences
- 5+ years of experience working with healthcare claims data
- 5+ years of experience managing people and leading projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated success in designing and executing advanced actuarial analyses that deliver actionable business insights
- Vision and dental experience
- Advanced or higher level of proficiency with modern analytics and data platforms, including SAS, Python, R, Databricks, SQL, and Power BI

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $134,600 to $230,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
