Role Overview

The experience of managing data in healthcare is complex and fragmented, creating significant challenges for delivering consistent and personalized AI experiences. Today, healthcare faces a landscape of disconnected data sources - spreadsheets, inboxes, contracts, and legacy systems - each performing distinct functions without integration. This fragmentation undermines AI effectiveness, increases risk, and limits our ability to deliver contextual, compliant, and persona-driven interactions.

At UHG, enterprise data coordination is essential for powering AI-driven experiences that serve the enterprise personas - members, advocates, and brokers -  diverse business needs. By unifying and standardizing data across UHC and Optum, UHG-level coordination enables seamless, scalable, and compliant AI solutions that deliver contextualized support and insights. This means members can more easily access care, coordinate benefits, and receive personalized guidance, while advocates and brokers are equipped with timely, accurate information to resolve issues and deliver high-quality service.

Optum, as a leading health services and innovation company within UnitedHealth Group, provides a broad range of solutions including pharmacy care services, data analytics, population health management, and clinical expertise. UHG-level data coordination ensures that Optum's business units - such as Optum Health, Optum Insight, and Optum Rx - can leverage integrated, trusted data to optimize operations, support care coordination, drive cost efficiency, and deliver actionable intelligence to providers, payers, and employers. This collaborative approach not only enhances the experience for UHC personas but also empowers Optum to deliver innovative, data-driven solutions that improve health outcomes and operational performance across the healthcare ecosystem.

As Director, AI Data Coordination - Partner Experience, you will play a critical role in supporting the Senior Director, Digital Product - AI Data Coordination & Enablement to transform the data ecosystem across UHC and Optum. Your focus is on identifying, unifying, and digitizing disparate datasets from both organizations into an interoperable architecture that powers personalized, accurate, and compliant AI experiences for UHG-level skills. You will help build the foundation for scalable AI by ensuring data from UHC, Optum, and adjacent experiences is organized, structured, and mapped to enterprise standards, increasing interoperability between member-, advocate-, broker-, and companion-facing AI skills and workflows.

A key aspect of this role is enabling real-time support for thousands of front-line workers who serve our 50 million member base. By coordinating and integrating data across platforms and tools from both UHC and Optum, you will empower teams with timely, accurate information - helping them resolve member issues, answer questions, and deliver exceptional service at scale. Your work will directly impact the speed, quality, and personalization of support provided to members, advocates, brokers, and companions, driving operational efficiency and improving outcomes across the enterprise.

You will partner across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Technology, and Compliance teams at both UHC and Optum to operationalize data strategies, drive technical excellence, and deliver a seamless, trusted, and intelligent data foundation for UHG-level AI. Your scope includes cataloging ground truth data sources, digitizing unstructured data trapped in manual processes, and supporting the execution of a unified data strategy that spans both organizations. You will help break down silos, embed governance and risk management into every layer of the data ecosystem, and foster a culture of innovation and shared ownership.

This position is pivotal in enabling UHG to deliver scalable, complete, useful, and accurate AI experiences that are personalized, consistent, and compliant for all users - while driving operational efficiency and reducing risk.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

  • Analytical Problem-Solving: Uses data to diagnose issues and drive evidence-based decisions
  • Adaptability: Thrives amid ambiguity and evolving priorities; comfortable with change management
  • United Culture Orientation: Models a cooperative approach and shared success across teams, with a focus on enterprise outcomes
