Surest is actively seeking a curious, ambitious, and skilled Data Analyst to support the research arm of the Benefits Analytics team. This position will contribute to a growing research team in their efforts to evaluate Surest performance and use Python and SQL to support analytic scaling projects to keep pace with Surest's rapid growth.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you'll be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Use Python and SQL to support team's automation capabilities. For example, contribute to code development and production of automated client reporting
- Work towards becoming the code and production owner of the monthly plan sponsor analytic reports. The code is written in Python and SQL and is run using Databricks
- Support research efforts, with a gradual increase in responsibilities.
- Use Python and SQL to design, build, and organize data for analytical purposes.
- Support short and long-term analytic and reporting projects using quantitative approaches and tools.
- Respond to ad-hoc reporting and analytic requests from internal stakeholders by mining data using Python, SQL, business intelligence tools, and claims databases.
- Independently mine claims and digital data to clearly understand capabilities and limitations of the data for analyses. Partner with stakeholders to identify requirements and deliver results along with interpretation and explanation
- Participate in technical documentation of analytics and results
- Support review of internal and external deliverables for accuracy (QA)

Required Qualifications:
- Background in a quantitative field such as Math, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Data Science, or Economics
- 1+ years of demonstrated experience with Python and SQL
- 1+ years of demonstrated experience in programming and data analysis, complemented by the capacity to pursue these activities independently with a curious mindset
- Experience maintaining project documentation and files, reviewing, tracking, and managing study documents for completeness and accuracy
- Experience interpreting analytic results and provide analytic input for final reports and presentations
- Familiarity of statistical concepts, such as regression modeling and hypothesis testing
Preferred Qualifications:
- Multiple years of Python, SQL, or R experience
- Experience with health care data
- Experience with version control, preferably Git
- Knowledge of statistical concepts, such as regression modeling and hypothesis testing
- Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and balance multiple priorities and projects
- Demonstrated ability to work with less structured, more complex issues

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $60,200 to $107,400 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
