Policy Writers have end to end accountability for development and implementation of each Medicare based Clinical Coverage Policy for UnitedHealthcare Medicare and Retirement. This function supports research and interpretation of CMS rules, billing, and coverage guidelines. This staff also develops the requirements for implementation of these policies and ensures implementation in our claims systems across platforms.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Research of CMS coverage guidelines
- Interpretation of rules and guidelines for claims payment
- Work with multidisciplinary groups to develop coding to support accurate billing scenarios
- Work directly with implementation teams to implement policy appropriately
- Address policy questions from designated groups within UHG
- Policy updates at least annually, or more frequently as coverage rules change

Required Qualifications:
- Current unrestricted RN licensure in applicable state
- 2 + years of experience with either Medicare Policy, Claims or Claims processing
- 2+ years of Medicare experience (proficient in research of the CMS Medicare Coverage Database (MCD), and interpretation of CMS transmittals, Internet-Only manual (IOM), national and local coverage determinations (NCDs and LCDs)
- 1+ years of Coding experience (e.g., ICD-10, CPT/HCPCS)
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical, surgical and diagnostic procedures and terminology
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint)
- Proven excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proven ability to communicate with confidence with other medical professionals
- Proven excellent planning, organizing, time and work management skills
Preferred Qualification:
- Coding Certification (AAPC AHIMA, etc.)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
