Position Summary:
The Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) serves as the senior physician leader responsible for advancing the strategic use of clinical information systems, digital health solutions, and emerging technologies to improve patient outcomes, clinician experience, operational efficiency, and value-based care performance across WellMed.

The CMIO acts as the primary liaison between Clinical Operations, Information Technology, Population Health, Quality, Risk Adjustment, and Executive Leadership. This role leads the Clinical Informatics function, oversees optimization of the electronic health record (EHR) platform and associated technologies, and ensures technology solutions effectively support WellMed's mission to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the WellMed Clinical Informatics program.

  • Electronic Health Record Governance

  • Provide executive oversight of the EHR platform and integrated clinical applications.

  • Establish governance processes for enhancement prioritization, workflow optimization, and system adoption.

  • Partner with clinicians and operational leaders to improve usability, efficiency, and patient care workflows.

  • Guide implementation of system upgrades, medical content, clinical decision support, and interoperability initiatives.

  • Evaluate, recommend, and oversee implementation of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and clinical automation tools.

  • Promote innovation that enhances provider efficiency, documentation quality, patient engagement, and clinical outcomes.

  • Assess technology investments and develop business cases supporting operational and clinical excellence.

  • Serve as the bridge between clinicians and technology teams.

  • Identify, mentor, and develop physician and APC informatics leaders.

  • Lead change management strategies for technology deployment and adoption.

  • Ensure clinicians receive effective education, training, and ongoing support for technology solutions.

  • Collaborate closely with IT, Operations, Quality, Population Health, Care Management, and Risk Adjustment teams.

  • Provide clinical leadership for enterprise technology initiatives and clinical care enablement programs.

  • Partner on the design and implementation of workflows that improve patient care delivery and operational performance.

  • Leverage clinical data and technology to improve quality measure performance, risk adjustment capture, and clinical documentation integrity.

  • Support enterprise initiatives focused on affordability, outcomes improvement, and population health management.

  • Use analytics and reporting capabilities to inform clinical and operational decision-making.

  • Participate in senior leadership committees and strategic planning activities.

  • Present recommendations and outcomes to executive leadership.

  • Ensure informatics initiatives align with organizational objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.), or M.B.B.S
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in Texas or the ability to obtain prior to employment
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years of clinical practice experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership in physician informatics, healthcare technology, or clinical operations.
  • Experience leading EHR optimization and enterprise technology initiatives.
  • Experience working within value-based care or population health environments.
  • Proven ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and large-scale change initiatives.
  • Understanding of artificial intelligence, analytics, and emerging digital health technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Board certification in Clinical Informatics.
  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Informatics, or related field.
  • Experience in Medicare Advantage or value-based care organizations.
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks, Epic, or comparable enterprise EHR platforms.
  • Prior CMIO, Associate CMIO, CHIO, or Informatics Medical Director experience.

Compensation for this specialty generally ranges from $279,500 - $440,500. Total cash compensation includes base pay and bonus and is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience and may increase over time based on productivity and performance in the role. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
