The Optometric/Ophthalmic Assistant is responsible for providing direct patient care to patients seen in the Optometry or Ophthalmology departments.    He or she will ensure the safety and comfort of patient and families according to legal, organizational and professional standards.

Primary Responsibilities:

• 30%    Provide direct patient care to facilitate the provider's practice. Which includes but is not limited to:    Assist with rooming and exiting of patients - gathers information. Promotes plan of care and Health Maintenance guidelines. Provides Health Education information
• 20%    Performs technical and supportive patient care skills. Which includes but is not limited to:   Tonometry, Refractive testing, Visual Acuity testing, Reading glasses Rx, Medical Emergency response
• 5%    Infection Control:  Provides an environment to prevent and control the spread of disease within the clinical setting.  Which includes but is not limited to:  Hand washing, aseptic and sterile technique. Also include care, cleaning and sterilization of instruments as assigned
• 10%    Management of Information:  Accurately documents and communicates to appropriate care providers.  Which includes but is not limited to:  Confidentiality, Documentation, Clerical duties, Release of information, provides telephone message taking and Computer use
• 5%    Environment of Care:  Assists with maintenance of equipment, supplies and environment.  Which includes but is not limited to:  Orders supplies, Equipment maintenance and Follows all safety standards for patients, employees and visitors.  Identifies and reports potential barriers for the safe provision of patient care and maintains a safe patient environment.  Supports initiatives related to meeting OSHA and accreditation standards
• 5%    Patient Rights and Responsibilities-practices positive guest and peer relationships, supports and respects patient rights.  Which includes but is not limited to:  Inquires and documents Advanced Directive status and Handles complaints
• 5%    Human Resources - responsible for personal growth and career development.  Which includes but is not limited to:  Certifications, Annual competency assessment, Teamwork and Communicates
• 5%    Performance Improvement:  participates in organizational improvement.  Which includes but is not limited to:  Performance Improvement Plan and PDCA
• 15%    Proficient in the use of equipment specific to ophthalmology and optometry. NCT, AR, Visual acuity, Visual field testing, Corneal Topography, Keratometer readings, Radiuscope testing, A-Scan testing, PAM testing, BAT testing, Phoropter readings

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Current BLS through American Heart Assoc
• 1+ years of Medical Assistant or Optometric Assistant experience if not a graduate of an approved Medical/ Optometric Assistant program Or 6+ months of experience and be a graduate of an approved Medical/Optometric Assistant program
• CRT experience
• Proven ability to use equipment and related supplies for selected patient population

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certified as an OA
• 1+ years in optometric setting
• Proven ability to use NCT, Autorefractor, computer related equipment, Lensometer and able to perform K-readings.
• Proven windows bases computer skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $18.00 to $36.00 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
