The primary purpose of this role is to manage the UHCSR team of Account Executives (AEs) and be responsible for growth, and retention.  


The position includes providing coaching and training with respect to sales, client management and leadership.  It also includes leading key initiatives that go across Student Resources Client Management.


This role requires an in-depth industry healthcare knowledge and an understanding of important trends. As well as a working knowledge of medical and pharmacy management, clinical operations and network management strategies to balance new business growth and retention.  Strives to understand goals, operating principles, strategies and competitive position of UnitedHealthcare.


Understands financing methodologies and strategies thorough a knowledge of underwriting principles and practices. Can explain and justify financial projections for all product funding types. Understands the drivers of administrative costs and plan liabilities.  Develop tightly collaborative, trust-based relationships with underwriting, actuarial and operations leadership to jointly make the best decisions to profitably grow the business over time.  


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Business Management Responsibilities
    • Demonstrates and supports UHG culture throughout the organization
    • Provides data and feedback to leadership for pipeline management
    • Maintains a high level of health care industry knowledge
    • Demonstrates support of company-wide programs and initiatives
    • Establishes management and control processes for proposals, RFP and all quote activity
    • Accountable for executing sales strategy to attain business results
    • Balances the big-picture concerns with day-to-day activities
    • Links business operations and business plans to that of broader organization
    • Understands fully the company's mission, strategy, strengths and weaknesses
  • People Management and Relationship Building
    • Possesses the ability to build and maintain solid internal relationships and works well in cross-functional teams and with matrix partners, demonstrating an aptitude to build trusting relationships
    • Ability to present solid and persuasive arguments for consideration. Solid presentation skills using company incorporated techniques
    • Ability to develop trusted relationships with leaders of internal UHCSR functional areas and appropriately influence their support for the Student market
    • Guides AEs in managing their books to attain growth, and retention goals while maintaining profitability for the overall book of business
    • Colaborates with Account Executives in efforts to advance our broker distribution partner relationships
    • Builds and maintains positive, constructive working relationships with senior levels as well as internal and external customers
    • Recruits, hires and manages performance of staff providing ongoing feedback, conducting regularly scheduled 1:1s and facilitating the MAP process in a timely manner
    • Reviews the AE MAP goals with each direct report
    • Assists AEs in managing escalated client issues
    • Removes barriers and obstacles for AEs to address client situations
    • Assists AEs with RFPs, renewals and negotiations
    • Manages review of AE SIP
    • Leads weekly staff meetings
    • Motivates and inspires others to meet their goals

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Sales Insurance License maintained by laws
  • 8+ years of successful Healthcare Insurance Sales experience
  • Demonstrated success managing broker/consultant relationships
  • Demonstrated experience assessing talent and addressing development needs
  • Demonstrated experience leading a sales team or project that resulted in positive fully insured growth
  • Excellent planning and organization skills
  • Complex problem-solving ability
  • Ability to multi-task; ability to quickly grasp new ideas and products
  • Very solid communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Ability to travel as required


Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $130,000 - $240,000 annually based on full-time employment. This role is also eligible to receive bonuses based on sales performance. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
