Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, monitor and maintain production software across APIs, services, applications, data workflows and cloud-native components
- Apply AIDLC practices to specify outcomes, plan technical approaches, decompose work into executable tasks, implement solutions and validate results across the full delivery lifecycle
- Use enterprise-approved AI-assisted development tools for requirements analysis, solution design, coding, refactoring, code review, documentation, test generation and release-readiness activities, with human accountability for all production outputs
- Develop secure, maintainable code using modern engineering principles, design patterns, data structures, algorithms and object-oriented or functional techniques
- Implement CI/CD pipelines, version control, automated builds, static analysis, dependency and security scanning, deployment controls and rollback strategies
- Design for operational excellence by adding telemetry, structured logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, health checks and runbooks, and diagnose production issues and perform root-cause analysis
- Collaborate with product, architecture, quality, security, data, platform and operations partners to clarify requirements, manage dependencies and deliver incremental business value
- Modernize legacy components, automate manual workflows and create reusable engineering assets that improve team throughput, consistency and maintainability
- Participate in Agile planning, refinement, estimation, reviews and retrospectives, and use evidence and delivery metrics to improve flow, quality and predictability
- Share knowledge through peer reviews, pairing, technical documentation and practical coaching on AIDLC, testing and software engineering practices
- Quality Engineering and Testing
- Build quality in from the start by defining acceptance criteria and test strategies and by creating maintainable automated unit, component, API, integration, contract, end-to-end, regression, performance, security and resiliency tests
- Use test-driven development, behavior-driven development or equivalent quality-first practices, analyze coverage gaps, defects and failure patterns, and improve reusable test data, frameworks and CI quality gates
- Define and validate non-functional requirements, including performance, scalability, reliability, security, accessibility and operability
- Use AI-assisted test generation, test-data creation and coverage-gap analysis while applying human review to edge cases, ambiguous requirements and high-risk changes
- Integrate automated tests, static analysis and security scans into CI/CD quality gates, and trace validation evidence to requirements and acceptance criteria
- AI-Driven Development Expectations
- Adopt AIDLC as a way of working, not simply a tooling choice, by using clear specifications, context-rich plans, incremental tasks, automated validation and accountable human review
- Use only enterprise-approved AI tools and follow applicable security, privacy, compliance and responsible-AI policies, and never expose confidential, proprietary, regulated or personal data to unapproved services
- Critically evaluate AI-generated code and content for correctness, security, maintainability, licensing, bias, performance and alignment with engineering standards before use
- Measure and improve outcomes such as lead time, automation coverage, escaped defects, change failure rate, recovery time, deployment frequency and developer experience
- Contribute reusable prompts, skills, patterns, tests and lessons learned so the broader team can scale safe and effective AI-assisted delivery
- Expected Impact
- Accelerate delivery of strategic roadmap capabilities by converting well-defined requirements into smaller, testable increments and using AI assistance to reduce cycle time from idea to production
- Increase the team's delivery capacity by automating repetitive coding, testing, documentation, triage and release tasks, enabling engineers to focus on higher-value design and problem solving
- Improve release confidence and reduce downstream defects through earlier automated testing, stronger coverage, continuous validation and dependable CI/CD quality gates
- Strengthen production stability and supportability through secure design, observability, resilient deployment practices and faster root-cause identification
- Raise team-wide AIDLC maturity by creating reusable specifications, prompts, engineering patterns, test assets and operational practices that make delivery faster and more consistent
- Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do so
Required Qualification:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
At UnitedHealth Group, our mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone. We believe everyone-of every race, gender, sexuality, age, location and income-deserves the opportunity to live their healthiest life. Today, however, there are still far too many barriers to good health which are disproportionately experienced by people of color, historically marginalized groups and those with lower incomes. We are committed to mitigating our impact on the environment and enabling and delivering equitable care that addresses health disparities and improves health outcomes - an enterprise priority reflected in our mission.
