The Senior Financial Analyst will support the OptumCare Arizona/New Mexico Financial Planning & Analysis team, primarily within the Employed Group space. This role will lead financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, provider compensation modeling, incentive calculations, and clinical P&L performance reporting. The Senior Financial Analyst will partner closely with finance, operations, clinical, and senior leadership teams to translate complex financial and operational data into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making, margin improvement, and business performance.
This position provides analysis of clinic performance, provider productivity, quality incentives, staffing needs, and other key operational drivers. The Senior Financial Analyst will develop clear, concise reporting and recommendations that help leaders understand financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and execute against strategic and operational goals.
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, with an 8-hour shift during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional overtime may be required based on business needs.
Training will be conducted on the job during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This position follows an office-based schedule with 1 in-office day per week in our Tempe office. Our office is located at 1225 West Washington Street, Tempe, AZ 85288.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provider Compensation & Incentive Calculations:
- Perform monthly and quarterly calculations of provider productivity and quality initiatives
- Continuous financial analysis and modeling of employed provider compensation plans for primary care and specialties
- Develop, interpret, and present compensation and performance results to finance, clinical, and operations leaders
- Support provider education by explaining compensation plan mechanics, incentive drivers, and performance results in a clear and actionable manner
- Clinical P&L Management:
- Manage monthly reporting and analysis of revenue, SG&A, margin, and key clinical financial performance metrics
- Analyze clinical financial performance at a detailed and segmented level to identify trends, variances, risks, and improvement opportunities
- Partner with senior operations leaders to set statistical metrics, enhancing awareness of contractual and operational performance
- Lead, track and follow-up with senior leaders on efficiency initiatives
- Forecasting & Budgeting:
- Partner with finance colleagues and department leaders to develop budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans
- Develop cost-benefit analyses, staffing models, and financial business cases for key strategies and operational initiatives
- Contribute to company-wide business planning by providing financial insights, scenario analysis, and recommendations that support strategic priorities
- Acquisition Analysis & Integration Support:
- Perform detailed financial and qualitative analysis for potential provider group acquisitions, network arrangements, and strategic growth opportunities
- Partner with M&A stakeholders to validate financial modeling assumptions, support due diligence, and assist with financial and accounting integration activities
- Other Responsibilities:
- Assist other team members as needed
- Assist with Capital Asset Requests and FTE requisitions
- Create and manage ad hoc reporting for senior management and regional/national finance stakeholders
- Identify opportunities to streamline reporting, enhance analytical tools, improve data presentation, and increase efficiency across financial processes

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics or related field
Must be 18 years of age OR older
- Experience anticipating accounting, financial reporting, forecasting, and operational issues; assessing business implications; and developing appropriate action plans
- Experience owning and managing financial models and improving financial processes
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, Power Query, and related analytical functions
- Excellent communication, executive presence, and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex financial concepts for a variety of audiences
- Ability to work full-time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to work an 8-hour shift schedule during our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA or MBA
- Experience using Microsoft Power BI, Hyperion Essbase, Planful
- Experience working in healthcare
- Experience working directly with providers/physicians
- Experience working with large datasets, analytics, and advanced financial modeling
- Solid quantitative, analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills, paired with a growth-oriented mindset

- Reside within commutable distance to the office at 1225 West Washington Street, Tempe, AZ 85288
- Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
- Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
- Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $72,800 - $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
